            <title>ULTIMA SERATA DI FUEGO: CHIASSO JAZZ FESTIVAL</title>

Ho scelto l'ultima serata nella speranza di ascoltare il meglio,&amp;nbsp;sulla carta c'erano le&amp;nbsp;proposte pi&amp;ugrave; stimolanti, ma il risultato finale non &amp;egrave; andato oltre una normale amministrazione musicale. Hamid Drake &amp;egrave; un batterista formidabile: le sue frequentazioni raccolgono il meglio della scena mondiale, da Don Cherry a Anthony Braxton, quindi la mia aspettativa era abbastanza alta nonostante l'ascolto del nuovo album (Reggaeology) con lo stesso gruppo non mi avesse conquistato. Non posso dire di essermi annoiato, anzi, mi sono anche sinceramente divertito; ho ammirato due trombonisti di statura notevolissima che ad ogni intervento automaticamente innalzavano il livello del concerto. La proposta era incentrata sul reggae riletto e rivisitato con lo sguardo swingante e smaliziato del jazzista: temi semplici, formidabile base ritmica in levare, un cantante-rumorista bravo ma complessivamente ininfluente&amp;nbsp;e due fiati, Bishop e Albert, che hanno retto il peso creativo della serata.&amp;nbsp;Nei fatti si &amp;egrave; trattato di una idea divertente e ben congegnata ma dal respiro limitato e senza prevedibili sviluppi, in cui il jazz &amp;egrave; solo parziale componente di un universo effervescente ma richiuso su se stesso. Drake si &amp;egrave; prodotto in un notevole assolo&amp;nbsp;ricco di energia e di richiami a Max Roach, Parker &amp;egrave; un interessante chitarrista di evidente derivazione rock e Abrams ha svolto con precisione e forza il suo compito: di pi&amp;ugrave; era difficle pretendere vista la formula.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Il secondo gruppo era una novit&amp;agrave; assoluta, cio&amp;egrave; il nuovo quartetto di Manu Katch&amp;egrave;, batterista francese di origini ivoriane conosciuto per le numerose frequentazioni pop e la lunga&amp;nbsp;militanza nel quartetto di Jan Garbarek. L'ultima volta che avevo assistito ad un concerto di Katch&amp;egrave;, due anni fa a Bergamo Jazz, me ne ero andato dopo una mezz'ora con i padiglioni auricolari offesi da quella che io chiamo la sindrome di Jack De Johnette. Quando cio&amp;egrave;, il batterista-leader prevarica gli altri musicisti con un volume esagerato, nella maggioranza dei casi anche per coprire il vuoto di idee. Non &amp;egrave; stato cosi' sabato sera, il gruppo anzi &amp;egrave; parso gi&amp;agrave; piuttosto rodato, e dopo il reggae di Drake anche il jazz leggero e prevedibile di Katch&amp;egrave; &amp;egrave; sembrato appetibile. Bei temi, un interessante pianista francese (Alfio Origlio) di evidenti ascendenze italiche, un sassofonista&amp;nbsp; clone di Garbarek (Brumborg) ed un leader che si &amp;egrave; ragionevolmente trattenuto dallo strafare. Concerto tanto liscio e&amp;nbsp;innocuo quanto privo di qualsiasi stimolo nuovo o di voglia di rischiare qualcosa. Speriamo in pi&amp;ugrave; coraggio anche negli organizzatori per la prossima edizione.&lt;/p&gt;</description>

La polemica è uno degli accessori di qualsiasi spazio reso pubblico: mi interessa e la trovo utile fino a che non diventa sterile, trampolino per esibizioni spericolate che non smuovono di un centimetro l’opinione di nessuno. Non sono per forza  un osservante del politically correct, quando c’è da mandare affanculo qualcuno e non ci si può esimere, bisogna farlo, ed in questo senso il mio Amen in risposta a GMG lo era in pieno.  Nonostante ciò, e nonostante qualche incomprensione, i punti che condivido con GMG e con Facchi sono numerosi: dal prosopopeico vuoto nazionalistico francese alla miope e discutibile autarchia italica fino alla analisi su meriti e limiti del personaggio Rava. Molto lontano invece nella valutazione dello stato della musica jazz in Europa ed in Italia (apro parentesi: la pubblicità la fanno e l’hanno fatta  moltissimi jazzisti americani e nessuno ha mai avuto niente da ridire….), o nelle riflessioni più generali sul livello di salute del jazz nero-americano. Non capisco, ad esempio, perché Martial Solal in quanto franco-algerino debba avere meno considerazione rispetto al  pur straordinario nero-americano Hamid Drake ascoltato ieri sera a Chiasso in un progetto sul reggae dal respiro abbastanza corto e dagli incerti apparentamenti con il jazz. Ma mentre Facchi ammette (ci mancherebbe…) opinioni diverse, la netta impressione è che GMG non lo tolleri affatto. Da qui qualche angolo vivo da smussare, ma, e non lo dico con malcelata ironia, leggere saggi o recensioni di GMG è sempre stimolante a prescindere dall’essere in sintonia o meno. Di lui non condivido la vis polemica spesso esagerata e debordante: ricordo giudizi pesanti scritti proprio su questo blog nei confronti di Jazzit e dei suoi collaboratori, salvo poi ritrovarlo pochi mesi dopo tra le firme più prestigiose del magazine. Non deve certo rispondere a me della sua coerenza, ma parole e giudizi più pacati evitano spesso situazioni imbarazzanti. Vivendo lontano da Milano e svolgendo una professione che non ha nessun punto in comune con la musica non ho mai conosciuto i personaggi di cui parla Riccardo (giornalisti, musicisti, organizzatori di eventi), men che meno mi hanno interessato le loro elucubrazioni passate e presenti e se continuo a leggere Musica Jazz è per affezione e per mancanza di altro punto di riferimento perlomeno in lingua italiana. Limite a questa discussione è senz’altro il mancato intervento di qualche redattore di Musica Jazz, ma a questo non posso sopperire e non ho nessun titolo nè intenzione di farne l’avvocato difensore.  Non sono un giornalista e non vivo del (o meglio, sul) jazz, quindi non ho parrocchie da difendere: non so se il mio blog fa “corretta divulgazione” come dice Facchi, non mi interessa però diventare organo di qualche minoranza (o maggioranza) qualunque essa sia. Il blog rappresenta solo la mia passione per la musica nero-americana, le mie idee in merito ed i miei gusti. Liberi tutti di leggerlo e di criticarlo cosi’ come di farne a meno. Da lei sono passati praticamente quasi tutti i grandi, ed ora, sforzo immane, ecco che per rendere omaggio ad un personaggio leggendario sono immesse in rete 30 puntate scelte con ospiti eccellenti. Suonano insieme da più di vent'anni ed il loro mood è particolarmente originale, innestando sulla formazione classica del jazz, il piano trio, un reiterato minimalismo tematico che sposta lentamente i toni e gli accenti. Insomma, semplificando alquanto per dare un'idea a chi non li conoscesse e fatte le debite proporzioni, una specie di traduzione in chiave jazzistica della idea musicale dei grandi  compositori americani Terry Riley, Philip Glass e Steve Reich . In questo periodo il trio si trova negli Stati Uniti per una tournè, e sono state registrate due serate al Issue Project Room in Brooklin. Inoltre l'Aids passato al cervello gli aveva causato una forma di demenza che lo aveva portato all'isolamento fisico e mentale causato da una grave forma di paranoia. Già l'originale edizione in doppio compact dallo stesso titolo costituiva un capolavoro immenso, testamento musicale di bellezza e profondità sconvolgente di Getz a pochi mesi dalla morte, ma l'edizione integrale di quella breve tournè credo rappresenti un evento e non vedo l'ora di entrarne in possesso (purtroppo solo tramite ordine diretto ad Amazon.fr, poichè il cofanetto non è importato, ma a tal proposito segnalo che 7 cd + libretto di 40 pagine costano su Amazon 32 euro, su altri negozi on-line si arriva ad oltre 100 euro....). Fa piacere infine il riconoscimento, l'ennesimo, alla nostra Roberta Gambarini, sempre più premiata e sempre più brava. Ne è riprova quest'ultima fatica, da pochi giorni nei negozi per l'etichetta Firehouse 12 Records. All'impianto pre-esistente, Takeishi, Vu e Ross, qui si aggiungono il clarinetto dai sapori klezmer di Goldberg ed il magnifico drumming di Matt Wilson. Tutte le composizioni sono della pianista, in gran parte concepite per un opera commissionata nel 2004 dalla Chamber Music America, ma qui rivisitate in funzione dei musicisti prescelti. La prima differenza consistente rispetto a precedenti album è la scelta di suonare completamente acustico: accantonati effetti ed elettroniche il suono è ulteriormente impreziosito dalle chitarre acustiche di Brandon Ross che ne tratteggiano palpabili atmosfere di classicità, opportunamente supportate dalla visceralità della tromba di Cong Vu e sostenute da una sezione ritmica scardinante ed effervescente. L'aspetto lirico delle composizioni guadagna moltissimo dalla scelta acustica, gettando luce sulle complesse iterazioni dei fiati e su potenti break di pianoforte, forse gli unici e brevi momenti apertamente free dell'intero album. Accattivante e rigoroso, il lavoro del sestetto richiede pazienza e più passaggi nel lettore per sprigionare tutti gli aromi ed i colori riposti nelle composizioni. E cosi'ogni pagina, anche quelle pubblicitarie, diventa un concentrato di link, rimandi a siti o clip audio e video. Nel grigiore della programmazione radio, con esclusione di Radiotre, la trasmissione è una delle poche che offre divertimento e cultura cosi' intrecciate tra loro che è difficile dire dove finisce il...cazzeggio e dove si inizia a fare sul serio.
