The call was quickly brought thousands of supporters. But on the eve of the event, one youth at the origin of the call and two other signatories have announced their withdrawal from the event, citing differences "ideological" training with Islamist and leftist groups. The youth organization of the Islamist Justice and Charity has also called to protest "peacefully" on Sunday.This movement not recognized but tolerated, is considered by scholars of Islam as "one of the largest in Morocco." The movement has also been supported by NGOs such as the Moroccan Association for Human Rights (MAHR) and independent journalists, calling for "the adoption of a democratic constitution." Sunday's demonstrations are the first movement of scale to demand political reforms in Morocco since the riots in Tunisia and Egypt and now in other Arab countries including Libya. |
