CYCOM

The Cyclist Community is born in January 2007.

It is made up of cyclists and common people leaving in Rome, sensitive to the use of the bicycle as a sustainable mean of transport and communting to work, and subscribing to an e-mail member list (about 300 members in December 2010).

The objectives of the CYCOM include the promotion of the bicycle as a sustainable mean of transport, especially for day-by-day commuting to work, lobbying activities to improve cycling conditions for commuting to work and Rome in general, and information sharing about cycling to/from work, Rome and surrounding areas. The list can be used by any CYCOM list member to inform about any bicycle related opportunities or issues.

Among traditional activities, CYCOM proposes a cyclist information event held in FAO (www.fao.org) in around June, when all the cyclists working for FAO – whether old practitioners or potential new cyclists – have the opportunity to exchange information about the nuts and bolts for coming to work by bicycle and to learn more about moving on your bicycle in Rome. In September, CYCOM contributes actively to the “European Mobility Week”. CYCOM is member of the "Coordinamento Roma Ciclabile" and liaises with Rome bicycle organizations for outings and other bicycle tours.

In 2008, CYCOM was awarded a special recognition from Euromobility for "its commitment in promoting in a voluntary basis forms of sustainable mobility among the FAO organisation's employees".

CYCOM is an independent organisation, formally part of the 'FAO Staff Coop' association: it does not represent by any mean the FAO nor its activity is related with FAO activity. An elected organising committee is responsible for maintaining the member list and coordinating the CYCOM activities.
