De La Hoya vs. Mayweather: The World Awaits" was a boxing super welterweight superfight which took place on May 5, 2007, at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada between six-division world champion Oscar De La Hoya (38-4, 30 KO) and undefeated four-division champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (37-0, 24 KO). The match was one of the richest boxing matches ever, with over $120 million in generated revenue.
The fight took place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada under the promotion of Golden Boy Promotions. It was contested at 154 pounds, with De La Hoya defending his WBC light middleweight championship.

Tickets sold out three hours after they went on sale on Saturday, January 27, 2007. With the sellout, the bout generated over $19 million in live gate, shattering the previous record of $16,860,300 set by the November 13, 1999, heavyweight championship rematch between Evander Holyfield and Lennox Lewis at the Thomas & Mack Center.

The fight was televised on HBO Pay-Per-View, with the cost to watch the fight at $55 in the U.S

Grand Garden Arena is located in the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, and is patterned after New York's Madison Square Garden. The arena has a seating capacity of 17,157 people and is located at 3799 Las Vegas Boulevard South.

Grand Garden Arena is home to concerts, the annual FOX Billboard Music Awards, the annual Andre Agassi Grand Slam for Children Benefit, the VH1 Divas Las Vegas shows, and other sporting and special events such boxing and Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) PPV events. From 1996-2000 it hosted wrestling's WCW Halloween Havoc PPV event.

In the Grand Garden Arena Barbra Streisand christened the arena by performing two concerts on December 31, 1993 and January 1st, 1994. At the time, the concerts were her first for paying customers in close to twenty-seven years. She would return to the Grand Garden Arena two more times: ringing in the Millennium on December 31, 1999 and January 1, 2000 and a November 18 stop on her 2006 concert tour.

On November 18th, 2001, Britney Spears broadcasted her concert live on HBO and attracted huge ratings. The concert was part of her Dream Within a Dream Tour. In order for the broadcast to work with the time differences, Spears performed at five o'clock at night. Spears performed at the Garden once during her Oops!... I Did It Again World Tour, twice during her Dream Within a Dream Tour, and once during her Onyx Hotel Tour. All four shows sold out almost instantly.
