Deaths due to 'external injuries':Swedish bird myster

Dozens of jackdaws were found in the centre of coach outlet Falkoeping prompting comparisons with the mysterious deaths of 3,000 birds in the US.

Sweden's National Veterinary Institute said it had tested five of the birds and found evidence of traumatic injury. But it could not explain why the birds were on the street. Professor Marianne Elvander, the institute's moncler jacket head of disease control and epidemiology, told the BBC News website that they appeared to have been hit by some kind of blunt instrument. "My best guess is that this was the secondary effect, that they could have hit the ground very fast after being hit by a car or truck," she said.

Swedish media have described how Falkoeping resident Drilon Hulaj beach p90x came across "hundreds of dead birds" lying in the street while driving home on Tuesday night. Mr Hulaj said he had been immediately reminded of the events in Arkansas where 3,000 red-winged blackbirds died mysteriously on New Year's Eve in the town of Beebe.

Scientists there believe the blackbirds may have been affected by fireworks. There have been no reports of fireworks or storms in Falkoeping on gucci bag Tuesday night and fireworks has been ruled by vet officers, who say there is no sign of internal haemorrhaging. But Swedish newspapers have suggested that the birds had been pecking at salt on the road when they were run over by a passing lorry.

Rescue chief Christer Olofsson told chanel bag Aftonbladet that a lorry driver had called him to explain that he had hit a lot of the birds but had not considered it significant until he discovered the story had attracted international media attention. While the lorry may go some way to solving the Swedish mystery, vet officers have pointed out that many of the birds were not run over.

Gates cutting Pentagon budget by $78bn over five years

Post n°20 pubblicato il 07 Gennaio 2011 da qiwen061213

The cuts over the next five chanel bag years come in addition to $100bn in internal savings already announced. Those savings will be redirected to other defence programmes, but the new cuts slow growth in the overall budget. But cuts to weapons programmes are certain to gucci bag encounter fierce opposition from members of Congress. Much of the roughly $178bn in defence cuts will come through reduced administrative costs, new organisational efficiencies, and slashed personnel costs, which the defence department called a "vigorous scrub of bureaucratic structures". The Pentagon's budget is expected to be $553bn in 2012, reflecting beach p90x roughly 3% growth. After that, growth would slow and would be essentially flat in 2015 and 2016, the Pentagon said. Mr Gates said much of the savings would be achieved by eliminating more than 100 general and flag officer positions, more than 200 top civilian defence positions, by cancelling redundant programmes and through reduced administrative costs. As much as $100bn in savings would not be sliced moncler jacket from the overall budget, Mr Gates said, but would be reinvested in shipbuilding, missile defence, intelligence, reconnaissance, healthcare for wounded soldiers, and other programmes. Mr Gates has been sceptical about whether large military vehicles, like tanks and EFVs, will continue to be crucial military instruments as engagement in modern warfare changes. He has previously said the enemy has developed sophisticated weapons capable of attacking ships waiting close to shore. Other cost-cutting measures announced by Mr Gates include plans to cut orders for the F-35 joint strike fighter over the next three to five years to compensate for repeated delays in coach outlet development and testing. He said he wanted to end the post-9/11 Pentagon's "culture of endless money where cost was rarely a consideration". The major weapons programmes cuts are likely to encounter opposition from US congressmen and senators in whose constituencies the arms are manufactured. "I'm not happy," House Armed Services Committee Chairman Howard McKeon told reporters. He said the cuts were greater than defence companies had been expecting. hhssyytt822

Dr. Andrew Wakefield, Who Linked Vaccine to Autism, Falsified Data

Dr. Andrew Wakefield, Who Linked Vaccine to Autism, Falsified Data

McGrath's children do not have autism. But as preschool gucci bag teacher, she said she and her colleagues began wondering whether there was a connection between some of the children who were vaccinated and their subsequent diagnoses of developmental disorders.

So at the time, McGrath held off on giving her son, now age 9, the second of the two dose combination measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine. And now she says she does not plan on vaccinating either of her children against whooping cough. "I don't know if I did right or wrong, beach p90x or whether vaccinating them would make a difference," said McGrath. "But I'm taking precautions because of what I've researched and seen and heard from friends, teachers, and other parents." McGrath said "I felt sick to my stomach" when she heard that Wakefield's paper included skewed data. But she says she still believes the purported connection. "

Some of these kids [I saw] have been profoundly affected," she said.moncler jacket "He was presenting sick kids that were getting better. He was healing these kids and I don't understand why he was doing the wrong thing." Wakefield Culprit Public Health Outbreaks, Many Experts Say Although Wakefield's chanel bag report only highlighted a connection to autism with the MMR vaccine, implications have spread to nearly all other routine vaccines. "People are far more compelled by fear than reason," said Offit.

Over 90 percent of school-aged children are vaccinated against MMR in most gucci bag schools nationwide, according to a 2010 report by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Still, mumps cases are the second highest reported disease among all of the vaccine preventable diseases, according to the CDC.

Many experts said many parents more often question whether their children should receive other vaccines such as pertussis or whooping cough, or varicella, known as chicken pox. "There is no doubt that the unsubstantiated concern chanel bag regarding the MMR vaccine caused by Dr. Wakefield has resulted in many cases of vaccine preventable diseases," said Dr. Gary Freed, director of the division of pediatrics at the University of Michigan Health System.

Report Linking Vaccine to Autism 'Fraudulent'

Post n°18 pubblicato il 06 Gennaio 2011 da qiwen061213

Evidence published beach p90x a decade ago, giving birth to the belief of a connection between vaccines and autism, has been deemed outright "fraudulent," according to an editorial published Wednesday in the British Medical Journal.

Dr. Andrew Wakefield, a former British surgeon, published research that seemed to establish a link between vaccines and autism. But authors of the editorial confirmed previous suggestions coach outlet that Wakefield skewed patients' medical records to support his hypothesis that the combination measles mumps rubella (MMR) vaccine was causing autism and irritable bowel disease. "Clear evidence of falsification of data should now close the door on this damaging vaccine scare," the authors wrote in the editorial.

According to the editorial, Wakefield stood moncler jacket to gain financially from his purported findings because of his involvement in a lawsuit against manufacturers of the MMR vaccine. Wakefield's representatives would not offer an on-the-record comment today.

The editorial may not be enough to dissuade many people who believe in Wakefield's claims, no matter how compelling the scientific evidence, according to Dr. Paul Offit, chief of the Section of Infectious Diseases at Children's Hospital in Philadelphia. "It's unfair for the BMJ to call him a fraud, because as a fraud you gucci bag have to have mal intent," said Offit. "But if you give Wakefield a lie detector test and ask him if he thinks MMR causes autism, he'd say yes. And he would probably pass, because he holds to it as one holds to a religious belief." Science Lost in Personal Stories The hypothesis was first introduced in 1998 in a study by Wakefield. His paper, published in The Lancet, tied autism and bowel disease to the measles vaccine.

It has since been roundly discredited. Critics said Wakefield's chanel bag paper used fabricated data to find a link between the MMR vaccine and the onset of what he described as "behavioral symptoms." And although the paper was retracted from the journal in February 2010, the belief remains among some doctors and many parents of children with autism. Colleen McGrath, 42, of San Diego, Cali, heard Wakefield speak at a local autism conference in July 2010 and said she knew she was doing the right thing by selectively choosing which vaccines would be best for her two children. Bank Seeks to Assure Its Safe Deposit Box Holders

Bank Seeks to Assure Its Safe Deposit Box Holders

In a heist that seems ripped from a Hollywood movie, thieves in Argentina tunneled into a bank on New Year's Eve, looting some 140 safe deposit boxes from the vault. The bank robbers entered the vault of a branch of Banco Provincia chanel bag in Buenos Aires through a 100-foot tunnel that connected to a nearby building, authorities said. The tunnel reportedly included ventilation, lighting, even carpeting.

At least three thieves snuck through the tunnel on New Year's Eve while the bank was closed, and spent the weekend collecting their loot, authorities said. Bank security cameras reportedly recorded images of the suspects gucci bag leaving with money and other stolen property, lifted from roughly 10 percent of the bank's safety deposit boxes. "It was a really impressive job," said prosecutor Martin Niklison. The bank itself doesn't even know the true value of title="beach p90x the lost property, as customers don't have to declare the contents of their safety deposit boxes. The caper took months to pull off, Niklison said, with the thieves renting the building near the bank in June 2010.

Safe deposit boxes are a frequent target for thieves in Argentina because many people prefer them over bank accounts to house savings, following the country's 2001 financial crisis. Bank officials didn't discover the robbery until they opened the vault Monday morning. Later in the day, hundreds of clients had gathered near the bank in protest, demanding that their savings be recovered and returned.

The story brings to mind Hollywood films, such as the 2008 thriller moncler jacket"The Bank Job," which was itself based on a actual tunnel robbery in England in 1971. But it's hardly the first time that South American thieves have turned to tunneling. In 2006, tunneling robbers snared safety deposit boxes and cash worth an estimated $25 million to $70 million, according to the Washington Post. In 2005, robbers reportedly stole $68 million from a Brazilian bank with the help of a 260-foot tunnel that connected a house with a bank vault.

Today, bank officials hoped to reassure clients that their coach outlet valuables will be safe. "The message we want to give is that we are going to protect their interests after this incident," said bank vice president Gustavo Marangoni on Argentine television. If history's any guide, the key to better security may just be tougher floors. yyhusheng222
