Xavier Canela was born in Barcelona. Aged 10 he began to sing at the "Coral Nou Horitzó" at the School "La Salle Gràcia" where he studied. Later he was a founder of the Choir named "Coral Moixerigues" sited in a village named El Bruc, which is 45 km. from Barcelona. With that Choral Society Xavier Canela sang during a period of 10 years in numerous concerts and, in most of all, as a baritone soloist. He had begun singing studies with the mezzo-soprano Montserrat Torruella, and later with the soprano Maya Maiska. In 1995 he entered the "Cor Jove de l'Orfeó Català" junior choir of this emblematic catalan choral society which is located at the Barcelona's modernist Palau de la Música Catalana, that was built precisely for the "Orfeó Català". In 2001 the singer became a member of the "Orfeó Català" as a baritone and as a soloist in numerous places all around Catalonia, in Jaca, and also at the "Palau de la Música Catalana". He is now making his singing lessons with the Swedish soprano Gudrun Bruna (member of the musical staff of the Orfeó Català). In 2003 he sang in Verdi's Aida at the Liceu of Barcelona. There he took part as an extra chorist and was engaged after Liceu's Choir auditions.
