Macau’s average hotel occupancy rate stood at 89.2% during the five-day Labor Day holiday in mainland China, which begins on May 1, the Macau Government Tourism Authority (MGTO) said.
The best day for individuals was May 2, with 95.1% occupancy. The data mentioned in Monday’s update did not include occupancy details by hotel grade and did not mention the basic number of rooms for the calculation.
Macau received a total of 604,395 visitors from May 1 to 5.
The MGTO on Monday said 487,000 arrivals, or about 80.6%, came from mainland China in the tally. Macau had about 78,000 arrivals, or about 12.9%, from Hong Kong, 8,000 from Taiwan, or 1.3%, and 32,000 from overseas markets, or about 5.3%. The rate tally is slightly above 100% due to rounding.
In Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, the Labor Day holiday period was limited to May 1 itself.
Other tourism-related data recently released by the Macau Hotel Association shows a more detailed picture of hotel stays during March this year.
The average occupancy rate for a three- to five-star hotel was 89.3 percent. For a five-star hotel, it was 90.7 percent.
The average room rate for three-star to five-star hotels in March was MOP1,431.2 (US$177.60). For five-star properties, MOP1,634.0 was above pre-pandemic levels. The average five-star rate was MOP1,608.6, according to the association’s data from March 2019.
At the time of the most recent survey, the Macau Hotels Association had 46 member hotels, 27 of which were five-star hotels. The majority of them were in casino resorts.
As of March 31, Macau had about 47,000 hotel rooms, up 19.6% year-on-year, according to data released last month by the Macau Statistics Office.
