Il Vaticano è convinto che i casi di pedofilia e di abusi sessuali in seno alla Chiesa cattolica sono più o meno gli stessi che avvengono pure in altri ambiti religiosi. In una dichiarazione emessa in una riunione del Consiglio dei Diritti Umani delle Nazioni Unite a Ginevra, Silvano Tomasi, osservatore permanente del Vaticano all’ ONU ha segnalato che “nel clero cattolico solo tra l’ 1,5 e il 5% dei religiosi ha commesso atti di questo tipo” e che “la percentuale è maggiore tra i familiari e gli amici delle vittime”. Poi la notizia inedita “Non si può parlare di pedofilia, solo di omosessuali attratti da adolescenti. Di tutti i preti implicati in casi di questo tipo, l’80-90% di essi appartengono alla minoranza sessuale che pratica la efebofilia, vale a dire che intrattengono relazioni sessuali con ragazzini dagli 11 ai 17 anni”.Tomasi ha replicato alle accuse mossegli da un membro dell’ Unione Internazionale dell’ Etica Keith Porteous Wood che ha accusato la Chiesa di nascondere gli abusi ai minori e di violare vari articoli della Convenzione dei Diritti dei Minori.
