RIM s highly anticipated Playbook has been given an official launch date of April 19th, following months of rumour & speculation. Customers of Best Buy in the United States & FutureShop in Canada can pre-order their BlackBerry Playbook devices from today for immediate shipping when released.
With 16GB, 32GB and 64GB models retailing at $499, $599 and $699 respectively, the Playbook is direct competition to the recently released iPad 2 which offers an identical cost to storage technique.
Boasted by BlackBerry to be the world`s very first professional-graded tablet PC, the purpose is for the Playbook to attract as lots of adoring worshippers from the business world as is likely in the general consumer market. It is therefore entirely feasible that BlackBerry may continue their trend of attracting giant, bulk orders of forthcoming releases for the business world, with the Playbook fulfilling the role as the world`s first tablet PC to be widely adopted for business use.
The specifications & compatibility with thousands of applications across both Java & Android platforms definitely speak good for the Playbook, though it remains to be seen how consumers react to the product`s launch when compared to Apple`s offers. One wich is sure however, is that the sensible use or a pre-order method is likely to exceed the efficiency of the iPad 2 launch several times over.
