http://www.3gmodem.com.hk/On April 30, 2010, the 41st World Exposition (Expo) has opened as scheduled in Shanghai, amid spectacle of fireworks, striking laser-lights, jetting fountains, and flashing LED screens alongside the Huangpu River, a tributary of the Yangtze River. Different from the past world expos, K3565 Shanghai World Expo this time has a distinctive highlight: putting diverse technological innovations into full use throughout the Shanghai world expo park, among which IPv6 network applications are undoubtedly a shining star. IPv6 Network: Servicing the Infrastructure of the Shanghai World Expo ParkThe Shanghai world expo park–5.28 square kilometers (largest in the history of world expos) from Pudong District to Puxi District along both banks of the Huangpu River–has been adorned with plentiful national, theme, and corporate pavilions as well as urban best practices areas (UBPAs) and home-stay families. Throughout such a large expo park, diversified demands, from communications of pavilions, transport of numerous video traffic and high-priority information to Internet surfing, have to be adequately addressed. Such demands challenge a lot the network deployment throughout the expo park.As early as one year ago, Shanghai Telecom, a subsidiary K3565 of China Telecom, embarked on planning an overall network for the entire expo park. After meticulous comparison of various cutting-edge network technologies and trial operations, Shanghai Telecom finally nailed down the fiber broadband and next-generation Internet technologies, backed by Huawei's FTTx and IPv6 solutions, for network buildout so as to provide important network services.Early before the opening of the Shanghai Expo, Huawei's FTTx equipment has been widely deployed in the Pudong area where national and corporate pavilions, press center, performance center, and home-stay families are clustered together. Such FTTx equipment is connected to the IPv6 backbone network, providing differentiated IPv6 network services to meet demands of different application scenarios (for example, communications of pavilions and common Internet surfing).IPv6 and Blue-ray/HD: Perfect CombinationAt 8 p.m. April 30, media personnel, including the print media workers and their TV counterparts from leading media organizations (Xinhua News Agency, CCTV, and People's Daily), gazed at the big LCD screens on the walls of eight big press room in the expo's Press Center. On the LCD screens are broadcasting live the opening ceremony of the Shanghai World Expo. The live broadcast had more clear-cut and unfrozen images than ever before. After the last batch of fireworks died down, the media staff cheered to celebrate that they had made it.A key enabler behind their success is the blue-ray/high-dentition (HD) IPTV platform and IPv6 optical network constructed jointly by Shanghai Telecom and Huawei. Over the network servicing the Press Center, the state-of-the-art IPv6 FTTH optical access technologies have also played a prominent role, apart from the legacy private line technologies. Shanghai Telecom and Huawei have joined hands in deploying such IPv6 FTTH throughout press rooms located at the first floor of the Press Center, including eight big press rooms, 32 small ones, and media work area that is equipped with 300 seats. With the IPv6 FTTH, massive video and news data are transported reliably and steadily. In addition, the IPv6 FTTH network is seamlessly connected to Shanghai Telecom's core IPv6 nodes located in Pudong District. In this way, end-to-end IPv6 connection is shaped all the way from the access layer to the core layer.Especially, leveraging the industry-leading IPv6 FTTH network, Shanghai Telecom has offered the blue-ray/HD-capable synchronous IPTV live broadcasting service and this gives to full play the combined advantages of IPv6, FTTH, and blue-ray/HD. Blue-ray/HD brings a fresh video experience with its more clear-cut images and at the same time IPv6 FTTH guarantees the ultra-broadband service quality. The perfect combination of blue-ray/HD, IPv6, and FTTH is under the spotlights in terms of network deployment practices during this expo.IPv6/IPv4 Dual-Stack: Fresh Internet Surfing Available to Common FamiliesApart from the IPv6 FTTH network, Shanghai Telecom and Huawei, resonating with the Shanghai Expo's theme of "Better City, Better Life", have worked closely together and launched the FTTH-based IPv6/IPv4 dual-stack routing terminals. Such routing terminals have empowered home-stay families in the Shanghai Expo Park to experience in person the most advanced network technologies. This truly makes technological innovations available to common families.Residents around the expo park, in addition to home-stay families inside the expo park, are also entitled to apply for the use of such IPv6/IPv4 dual-stack routing terminals so that they can surf the Internet in a new and fresh manner. Specifically, they not only enjoy the benefits of higher Internet access bandwidth and better service quality, but experience the changes IPv6 has brought to their life, for example, viewing more diverse information by browsing more IPv6 networks. This by nature coincides with the goal of better and harmonious city life that the Shanghai Expo is actively promoting.Huawei IPv6 Solution: Under the Spotlights in the Shanghai World ExpoAfter years' research into both technologies and applications, and close cooperation and many practices and strivings with Shanghai Telecom, Huawei has delivered its IPv6 K3565 products as wished to the entire expo park in Shanghai. The IPv6 products are as shining as the colorful fireworks along the banks of Huangpu River, and have added a lot of highlights to the 41th World Expo in Shanghai dedicated to better life through technological innovations. Shanghai Telecom has spoken highly of this cooperation with Huawei. It has also expressed the willingness for further cooperation with Huawei in its initiatives to widen the presence of innovative applications used in the Shanghai Expo to the entire Shanghai city, thereby K3565 spreading the harmonious idea of "better life through technological innovations" to every city corner.
