ZTE Corporation, a leading global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, today announced that it has launched the industry’s first commercial TD-LTE base stations: BBU- B8300 and RRU- R8962. The debut of the two base stations is timely to help accelerate TD-LTE industry commercialization.

ZTE’s B8300 TD-LTE base station is based on ZTE's SDR unified platform and can be upgraded from TD-SCDMA mode to TD-LTE or TD/TD-LTE dual mode. It fully supports a smooth evolution of carrier networks to LTE and lowers their total cost of ownership.

ZTE’s R8962 TD-LTE base station supports two channels with 20W transmission power each - the highest transmission power and power efficiency in the industry. It incorporates compact size, the most lightweight design in the industry, and meets the Sierra 306 growing industry demand for energy savings and emission reduction. Operators will benefit from its innovative product features for multi-mode functions of TD/TD-LTE, as well as its multi-band 2.3/2.6 GHz and multi-scenario indoor/outdoor applications.

To support the ever-growing needs for next-generation network infrastructure, ZTE has deployed more than 250,000 SDR base stations across the globe, including in mainland China, Hong Kong, India and Chile. The company successfully constructed a TD-LTE network for the Shanghai World Expo Press Center, and the company’s 2G/3G dual-mode base station built upon the SDR platform was nominated for a GSMA Global Mobile Award in 2009.

India's Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. said Friday it will take two months to decide on the winning bid to provide 5.5 million mobile telephone connections as the company tries to give its stalled expansion plans a shot in the arm.

 

BSNL has received bids from Alcatel-Lucent India Ltd., Ericsson India Pvt. Ltd. and Nokia Siemens Networks Pvt. Ltd., the state-run company's chairman, Kuldeep Goyal, told reporters on the sidelines of an industry event.

 

Capacity constraints have meant BSNL, India's seventh-largest mobile telephone services company, has struggled to keep pace with operators such as Bharti Airtel Ltd. and Vodafone Essar Ltd. in adding subscribers.

 

In March, BSNL scrapped a tender worth more than $6 billion for supplying equipment for 93 million mobile phone lines on the global system for mobile, or GSM, platform due to concerns over its procurement processes and procedures.

 

But last month, it released a document inviting bids for providing 5.5 million GSM telephone connections. The bid document didn't mention the value of the contract, but earlier in June Goyal said it would be worth about INR20 billion.

 

BSNL plans to install 3.37 million GSM connections in service Huawei B970 Router areas in north India and 2.13 million in the east of the country.

 

Separately, Goyal warned Friday that BSNL could post a net loss for last financial year ended March 31, 2010, primarily due to higher staff expenses. The company's listed state-run peer, Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd., also cited higher staff expenses when it reported a full-year net loss of INR25.15 billion in May.

 

Junior Communications Minister Gurudas Kamat said in May that BSNL's net profit in the nine months through December 2009 reached INR1.78 billion. Kamat told lawmakers in the upper house of Parliament that the company notched revenue Huawei B970 Router of INR242.84 billion for the nine months, while expenses totaled INR232.96 billion.

 

Goyal added that he expects revenue from providing leased communications lines to corporate clients to grow 50% from INR18 billion recorded last financial year.

ZTE Completes World's First MSF LTE/EPC Interoperability Tests

ZTE Corporation (“ZTE”) (H share stock code: 0763.HK / A share stock code: 000063.SZ), a leading global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, today revealed that it has successfully completed the world's first MSF LTE/EPC Interoperability tests. ZTE is one of various equipment vendors to participate and succeed in the MultiService Forum tests.

The tests were held by China Mobile and Vodafone in China and Germany respectively. ZTE took part in both China and Germany site tests by providing its advanced equipment sets including LTE eNodeB equipment, Evolved Packet Core (EPC), and IP Multimedia Subsystems(IMS) components.

All the core network vendors underwent two different scenarios of tests: single and interconnected laboratory. The objective is to assess the performance of equipment from multiple vendors under different implementation conditions. The end goal is to enhance the maturity of EPC inter-working in a multi-vendor environment, and to promote core network development in the LTE eco-system.

In the experiment carried out in the Vodafone Germany K3565 laboratory, ZTE was the exclusive supplier of eNodeB wireless equipment, and it successfully passed single laboratory and interoperability tests with Starent, Bridgewater, NEC and other vendors.

ZTE also joined the tests held at China Mobile's Beijing laboratory that measured end-to-end interoperability of the main LTE interfaces. In addition, the Company also concluded all three roaming experiments between the two laboratories and realized the industry's first IMS LTE call under a multi-vendor interconnection setting.
