Progetti Geologici

Sicilia

You may be wondering why an Englishman is writing a blog here on Libero.I first visited Italy over 30 years ago, as a geology undergraduate on a field trip to Sicily. It was the first time that I had been abroad since being a small child and my first experience of southern Europe.Staying and eating in a hotel in Cefalu, and spending most of the days surveying the rocks in the mountains behind or being whisked to such exotic places as Mt. Etna and Vulcano on day trips, I didn't have any time to really appreciate the place, but it has left me with some fantastic memories.Even at Easter time, it was hotter than anywhere that I had experienced before.....I saw snakes in the wild, ate artichokes for the first time.....grilled together with beef steaks and garlic and washed down with the local red wine....and tasted the best oranges that I have ever eaten.I also developed a love of the language, which seemed so musical to my ears.Until the next time..........
