Patriots running back Shane Vereen underwent surgery Monday after breaking a small bone in his wrist. The initial report was that Vereen, who rushed for 101 yards against the Bills in Sunday's 23-21 victory, would only be sidelined a few weeks...On Tuesday, the Patriots announced that Vereen was placed on injured reserve with a designation to return, which means he will be eligible to rejoin the 53-man roster no sooner than Week 10. Vereen's workload increased against the Bills because Steven Ridley fumbled twice (he lost one) and was benched for the second half. Now, Ridley gets a chance to redeem himself. "I'm not going to sit on the past, " he said Sunday after the game. "I just have to accept where I messed up, made a mistake and grow from it. That's really all you can do, having to point the finger, come back to work tomorrow. I hate it, it's unfortunate, but, you know, it's part of the game of football and I'm going to have to keep working, keep driving and pushing forward. We've got 15 more weeks in front of us and I'm going right back to work." On Tuesday, quarterback Tom Brady offered Ridley a vote of confidence. ��I know Stevan is a very mentally tough kid, " he said. "I love having him back there. I love giving the ball to him and watching him run.��

NFL Media's Albert Breer reported late Wednesday that Sanchez has a torn labrum in his right (throwing) shoulder, according to a source informed of the diagnosis. Surgery is a possibility, but the quarterback is still exploring other options following his Wednesday visit with Dr. James Andrews. Sanchez's current plan is to rehab the shoulder, though there is a thought surgery will happen eventually -- either during the season or after. ESPN's Chris Mortensen had the first report of a confirmed labrum tear, which Sanchez suffered when he took a hit to the shoulder during the fourth quarter of an Aug. 24 preseason game against the New York Giants. The diagnosis is another serious setback in the quarterback's once-promising career. Sanchez appeared to be in line to be the Jets' starter before going down against the Giants. The Jets originally called Sanchez's injury day to day, but it quickly became clear that it was more serious than the team was letting on. With rookie Geno Smith is coming off a Week 1 victory, it would be seen as a step backward to re-insert Sanchez into the starting lineup.

The suspended Denver Broncos linebacker has a warrant for his arrest in California for failure to appear in court last year. Susan Schroeder, chief of staff for the Orange County District Attorney's Office, confirmed to the NFL Media on Wednesday that court records show a bench warrant has been issued over Miller's failure to appear. "We are looking into the report, " Broncos spokesman Patrick Smyth told NFL Media via email. Miller currently is one game into a six-game suspension he received for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy. News of the California bench warrant came to light shortly after it was learned Miller was cited last week for driving without a license and speeding in Colorado. Miller also was arrested in August in Colorado after a background check showed he had a warrant for failure to appear in an October 2012 citation for careless driving, driving without a license and no proof of insurance. "Obviously we're not happy about it, " Broncos coach John Fox said Wednesday about the recent Colorado citation. Miller continues to be a distraction to a Broncos team that's trying to make do without him.

A wake will miss the Dolphins' Week 4 game, and then the team will see how his body responds, according to Rapoport.The wake was injured during Miami's first defensive series and was replaced in the lineup by Derrick Shelby.
