The nominees have been announced for the 2014 Jazz Journalists Association Awards.Winners in musical categories will be announced on the
JJAJazzAwards.org websiteon April 15. Winners in media categories will be announced at the JJA’s annual media awards party, a ticketed event, on June 11 in New York City at the Blue Note Jazz Club.Among the nominees for 2014 are four contenders for the JJA’s Lifetime Achievement Award: Muhal Richard Abrams, Herbie Hancock, Phil Woods and Randy Weston.Musician of the Year nominees are Craig Taborn, Dave Douglas, Gregory Porter, Matt Wilson, Wadada Leo Smith and Wayne Shorter.Up and Coming Artist of the Year nominees are Cécile McLorin Salvant, Jonathan Finlayson, Warren Wolf and Matt Mitchell.This year, for the first time, an award will be given for Electronics Player of the Year.The full list of nominees, including the photos and videos nominated in their respective categories, as well as the nominees in the jazz journalism categories, can be viewed at
