Detained Marine Col. Ariel Querubin is now in stable condition after being rushed to a hospital for chest pains, ABS-CBN News reported Wednesday.
According to initial diagnosis, Querubin has costochondriotis, an inflammation of the junctions in the ribs which causes localized chest pains.
Doctors recommend that Querubin undergo coronary angiography to determine if he also has a heart problem.
"And among the risk factors again leads us to decide that he should undergo an arteriography because of hyper tension and his elevated cholesterol as well," said Col. Ariel Zerrludo, commander of the Armed Forces Medical Center.
Querubin will undergo the angiography on Monday.
Querubin, who has been in detention for the last two years for his alleged mutinous involvement in the 2006 Fort Bonifacio standoff, was rushed to the intensive care unit of V. Luna Hospital in Quezon City at 9 a.m. after complaining of difficulty in breathing and chest pains.
The decorated Marine officer's wife, Pong Querubin, said her husband started feeling pain around 3 a.m., but it took almost six hours before he was rushed to the hospital for proper treatment.
Mrs. Querubin said her husband had to walk 100 meters to the security guard from his detention quarter to seek help. He was initially brought to a camp hospital around 7 a.m.
However, Mrs. Querubin said the camp hospital did not have medicine even a muscle relaxant. It took two more hours before the Marine official was brought to V. Luna Hospital because he had to secure clearance first before being transported out of the camp.
She said Querubin began feeling chest pains when he was first detained in connection with the alleged aborted coup attempt last February 2006. She believe worrying about his case caused her husband's health problems.
Querubin caught nationwide attention after going to Marine headquarters in Fort Bonifacio and demanding the military hierarchy to explain the sudden relief of then Marine commandant Maj. Gen. Renato Miranda in February 2006.
Miranda and Querubin were later charged for involvement in the supposed February 2006 coup plot against President Arroyo.
