I have a dream

I have a dream, that one day I wake up, and as for a miracle I find out that the shittiest 50% of humanity is gone, disappeared, nowhere to be seen anymore. Perhaps because our Maker, taking a look at his last bit of creative endeavour after some secular torpor, realises how much the tiny naked ape has strayed from the intended path, and has decided to take appropriate action.

Well, to do a proper job weeding out the most sickening 90% would be more like it, but let's not ask too much: even just 50% would send me over the moon (and would relieve the earth from much more than just half of the burden that we impose on it).

I mean, just imagine the beauty of it: you walk down the street and the experience no longer makes you sick. You are no longer in fear of raising your gaze, and you can actually find the sight of other humans, if not always pleasant, at least not disturbing. The stinking scumbag is no more, as is the chavvy moron, or the disgusting fatty wobbling down the supermarket aisle as if it had a natural right to show itself around like any other decent human being. All gone! And for what feels like the first time in your life you start contemplating the possibility of feeling one with your own kind.

There was a time, not long ago, when it looked as if something like that was indeed happening. It was during the recent swine flu epidemic. That particular strain of flu, if you remember, appeared to strike fatally specially among the overweight (which explains why the casualties count was so high in the US and Mexico), and thus seemed to bear the mark of that much needed 'selective' disease that could help clean up the earth at least from the worst breeds of its parasites. But it ended soon, and we were back to square one, or worse, given that as time goes by things only appear to get worse. Because, ironically, as we steadily grow in wealth, power and technology, the human race itself seems to irredeemably fall in health, grace and intellect.
