BRUXELLES (Reuters) - Il commissario Ue alla salute John Dalli si è dimesso oggi dall'incarico in seguito ad un'inchiesta anti-frode in cui è coinvolto sul presunto tentativo di influenzare la legge Ue sul tabacco.
Lo riferisce la Commissione europea.
Olaf, l'ufficio antifrode dell'Ue, ha scoperto che un uomo d'affari maltese avrebbe tentato di usare i suoi contatti con Dalli - di origine maltese - per aver ritorni finanziari cercando di influenzare la futura legge Ue sui prodotti legati al tabacco.
"Il rapporto Olaf non ha trovato alcuna prova conclusiva della diretta partecipazione del signor Dalli ma tiene in considerazione il fatto che fosse consapevole di questi eventi", si legge nella nota della Commissione, in cui si precisa che le dimissioni di Dalli hanno effetto immediato.
Il comunicato aggiunge che Dalli respinge ogni addebito.
