Milano, 5 ago. - (Adnkronos) - L'Italiana Mara Branzanti, 26 anni, dottoranda in Geomatica all'Universita' di Roma La Sapienza, e' tra i vincitori del Google Summer of Code 2013, il programma globale che offre agli studenti la possibilita' di fruire di borse di studio per scrivere codici per vari progetti di software open source. Dal 2005, anno di istituzione ad oggi, il Google Summer of Code ha visto una partecipazione di circa 6.000 studenti e oltre 3.000 mentori provenienti da 100 Paesi. Il progetto della Branzanti, finanziato da Google, e' quello di scrivere un software che rendera' piu' veloce e piu' facile l'uso del sistema di navigazione satellitare globale dell'Ue Galileo. Il programma Galileo, del valore di 5 miliardi di euro e chiamato cosi' proprio in onore dell'astronomo italiano Galileo Galilei, e' implementato dall'Unione Europea e dall'Agenzia Spaziale Europea con l'obiettivo di fornire un sistema di posizionamento ad alta precisione su cui le nazioni europee possono contare, indipendente dai sistemi di Russia e Stati Uniti. Branzanti sta collaborando nella scrittura di un software open source che consentira' ai ricevitori satellitari sulla terra di trovare il segnale del satellite Galileo in orbita piu' vicino, anche dai luoghi piu' remoti.
