Some Tips For Rechargeable Batteries For Tools

Post n°1 pubblicato il 14 Novembre 2013 da Aussbatt

Dealing with rechargeable batteries for tools can be expensive if they need to be replaced so what can you do. If you have a lithium-ion battery you can expect it last only so many cycles of charging and discharging, it could be any where around 300 to 500 cycles. This can be affected by such things as high temperatures and demands on the tool.

Unlike NiCad batteries which should be discharged completely before recharging, lithium-ion batteries can be recharged when only partially discharged. This will not have any effect on its abilities as it would with NiCad's which can suffer from "memory effect" and not get a full charge because it thinks it's already full.

If you have lithium-ion batteries you do not have to worry about reconditioning them. To avoid over charging them a good charger will have a power management circuit that will prevent this from happening.

With NiCad batteries, you can get the "memory effect" which can come from not fully discharging the battery before recharging it. If it is recharged with some power still in it, it remembers this over a period of time. So, when you recharge it you do not get a full charge, this in turn gives you a shorter work life with the battery.

So to save yourself some money, take care of your drill batteries. Remember if you work in high temperature areas it will affect the battery, especially if you keep your tools in your vehicle which can get very hot in the summer.
