A tre giorni dall'uscita di "Blackstar" il suo ultimo album, lo scorso 8 gennaio, giorno del suo compleanno, David ha perso la battaglia contro il cancro dopo 18 mesi di lotta. Probabilmente avrà dato tutte le sue ultime energie per poter riuscire a completare quest'ultimo lavoro cercando di resistere fino alla pubblicazione.
