La canzone è considerata uno dei capolavori della band e il suo testo originale è conservato in una teca a temperatura stabile alla British Library di Londra. Detto questo è sempre stata accreditata a Lennon per il testo e a McCartney per la musica. Due studiosi americani hanno analizzato con un computer tutti i testi e la musica della band dall'esordio fino al 1995, anno di uscita della canzone nell'album "Rubber soul".
