La Lotta per le Investiture è stata il più significativo conflitto fra i poteri : secolare e religioso nell’ Europa Medievale.Iniziò come una controversia nell’11 ° secolo fra Enrico IV del Sacro Romano Impero, e il Papa Gregorio VII, che avrebbe voluto il controllo riguardante le nomine di funzionari della chiesa.
Papa san Gregorio VII,Hildebrand di Soana (in italiano: Ildebrando di Soana), fu Papa dal 22 aprile 1073, fino alla sua morte. Uno dei grandi papi riformatori, egli è forse più noto per la parte che ha giocato nella Lotta per le Investiture, che contro di lui condusse l’ Imperatore del Sacro Romano Impero Enrico IV. Enrico IV (11 novembre 1050-7 agosto 1106) è stato re di Germania dal 1056 e del Sacro Romano Impero dal 1084 fino alla sua forzata abdicazione nel 1105. Egli è stato il terzo imperatore della dinastia Salica e uno delle più potenti e importanti figure del 11° secolo. Il suo regno è stato caratterizzato dalla Lotta per le Investiture con il Papato e con diverse guerre civili.
The Investiture Controversy was the most significant conflict between secular and religious powers in medieval Europe. It began as a dispute in the 11th century between Henry IV, Holy Roman Emperor, and the Pope Gregory VII concerning who would control appointments of church officials (investiture).
Pope Saint Gregory VII, Hildebrand of Soana (Italian: Ildebrando di Soana), was pope from April 22, 1073, until his death. One of the great reforming popes, he is perhaps best known for the part he played in the Investiture Controversy, which pitted him against Holy Roman Emperor Henry IV. Henry IV (November 11, 1050–August 7, 1106) was King of Germany from 1056 and Holy Roman Emperor from 1084 until his forced abdication in 1105. He was the third emperor of the Salian dynasty and one of the most powerful and important figures of the 11th century. His reign was marked by the Investiture Controversy with the Papacy and several civil wars .
