Here is a simple, easy to follow guide onto how to create your own unique painted wine glasses:

You will need-

* Clear wine glasses * Glass paints * Fine paint brushes * Pen and paper * Masking tape * Q tips * Rubbing Alcohol * Oven

The first step you need to take to get your project going is to locate all the things you will need. Many of the supplies are things you are likely to have lurking around the house. You will need to find- some fine paint brushes which are going to be used to paint the design, pen and paper which will be used to make a handmade stencil, masking tape which will be used to attach the stencil, Q-tips and alcohol which can be used to correct any mistakes, and an oven to bake your glasses to make them washable.

Clear wine glasses are something that you may have to purchase, but don't worry they can be found incredibly easily. Most supermarkets or department stores now sell boxes of cheap "value" brand wine glasses, which are ideal for your first few practices. When you get more skilled you may want to look for more stylish and interesting glasses, stores such as IKEA and WALMART sell a large variety of individual wine glasses in different shapes and sizes still at very reasonable prices. You will also need a selection of glass paints, craft stores and online craft suppliers are likely to stock a large variety of glass paints, when browsing them be sure to buy ones that can be oven baked. This will allow you to set your finished wine glass so that it can be used and washed.

Once you have assembled all the supplies you need to start thinking of a suitable design. In these early stages it is important to remember that glass painting is a skill which can take some time to master, so you may want to experiment with some simple designs first such as stars, flowers and butterflies, remember you can always add some freehand dots and swirls to your glass later to make it look ornate. Once you have a design in mind you need to draw yourself an outline on a strip of paper, which you will later be sticking inside the glass to follow. You may wish to indicate the colors you plan to use on the stencil too, just to remind yourself later. Even if you are a skilled painter I would suggest making and following an outline for the first few times just while you get used to the new paints and material.

Next you need to attach your stencil to the inside of your glass, so that it can be copied on the outside, using masking tape. Now you are ready to start painting your design onto the glass, as the paint does run easily I suggest only applying it in thin layers with a fine brush to reduce the chances of running paint. It also helps to start painting at the top of the glass and working your way down, as this reduces the risk of you smudging your work. Should you accidentally smudge a pattern or make a small mistake just dab a Q-tip in rubbing alcohol and gently wipe away the error, being careful not to erase any completed work around it.

Something to consider of you plan to be painting large patterns onto the glass is using a glass paint outliner- these are tubes of outliner which usually come in black, lead, silver and gold. They will create a stylish fine outline to your pattern, but also will prevent the paint from running outside the lines when you come to paint inside the outlines. If you do choose to use an outliner make sure that it is fully dried before you start painting around it.

Once you are happy with your painted design you need to leave the paint to dry, so leave the glasses in the safe place for 24 hours. Once the paint is dry you can either apply a second coat of paint if you want more vivid colours, or you can bake your glass, the temperature and time needed to set the paint should be listed on the paint bottle. Once the glass has been baked for the required time, leave it in the oven till it has cooled down to room temperature, then wash it in mild detergent to remove any residue.

Once your glass has been baked, the paints will have set which means your beautiful painted design is now washable, though be wary most paints will only be хэнд washable, so never put them in the dishwasher, or else your beautiful painted wine glass will be ruined.

Remember that in this case practice makes perfect!! After a few practice goes you'll find your skills and confidence growing, and will soon be working on more adventurous and ornate designs.
