The Sony Ericsson Women's Tennis Association (WTA) Tour is the elite tour for professional tennis organized by the WTA. The Sony Ericsson WTA Tour includes the Grand Slam tournaments (organized by the International Tennis Federation (ITF)), the WTA Premier tournaments, the WTA International tournaments, the Fed Cup (organized by the ITF), the Commonwealth Bank Tournament of Champions and the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour Championships.

The Sony Ericsson Open is one of Miami’s biggest sporting events, with over 200,000 spectators attending each year to watch the world’s top tennis players compete and VENUE FOR 2009 WTA TENNIS TOURNAMENT: the venue for the upgraded WTA tournament which will be held from 7 – 15 February 2009.

International: – International tournaments are designed for the other 950 players on the WTA tour, with minimum prize money of $220,000 (US currency). Formerly Tier III/IV events, there are 29 International tournaments in all.

Inthe chapter about 1933, Collins writes that after the Australian player Jack Crawford had won the Australian, French, and Wimbledon Championships, speculation arose about his chances in the U.S. Championships. Kieran, who was a bridge player, wrote: "If Crawford wins, it would be something like scoring a grand slam on the courts, doubled and vulnerable." Crawford, an asthmatic, won two of the first three sets of his finals match against Fred Perry, then tired in the heat and lost the last two sets and the match.
