Police on Thursday said it has received unconfirmed reports that four employees of the Basilan Electric Cooperative have been abducted in Tuburan town in Basilan.
Initial reports gathered by ABS-CBN Zamboanga said gunmen abducted the four Baselco employees in Sitio Batobabad, Barangay Sinulatan, around 11 a.m. The four employees are members of Baselco's engineering department, the report added.
Reports said the kidnappers were led by a certain Nurhassan Jamiri.
Chief Superintendent Joel Goltiao, police director of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, said his office had received a report about the incident through a text message.
Goltiao said he had asked the Basilan police to confirm the report.
Early this month, an ABS-CBN news team led by senior correspondent Ces Drilon and Mindanao peace advocate Octavio Dinampo were abducted by suspected Abu Sayyaf bandits in Sulu province.
The news team and Dinampo have been released. Security forces have been pursuing the kidnappers.
