Reuters NEW YORK - The visiting Detroit Pistons edged the Orlando Magic 90-89 on Saturday to take a commanding 3-1 lead in their best-of-seven Eastern Conference semi-final playoff series. Tayshaun Prince scored the go-ahead basket on a running jumper for Detroit with 8.9 seconds left and Hedo Turkoglu missed a desperation layup with time expiring to put the Pistons one victory away from reaching the conference finals. In the other Eastern semi-final, the Cleveland Cavaliers returned home after dropping the first two games in Boston and crushed the Celtics 108-84 to draw within 2-1 in the series. The Cavs stormed to a 32-13 first-quarter lead in handing the Celtics their four straight road defeat in the playoffs. Game Four is in Cleveland on Monday. LeBron James and Delonte West led a balanced Cleveland attack with 21 points each. Kevin Garnett was Boston's top scorer with 17. Richard Hamilton scored 32 points to lead Detroit. Prince scored 17 points and Rasheed Wallace contributed 16 and eight rebounds for the Pistons, whose leading guard Chauncey Billups did not play because of a hamstring injury. Turkoglu led the Magic with 20 points. "A lot of times I thought the guys could've thought it's not our night, but our guys grinded it out," Pistons coach Flip Saunders told reporters. "We got aggressive defensively." Orlando led 27-21 after the first quarter and extended the lead to 55-44 at the intermission. The Pistons trailed by 15 points at 63-48 but powered their way back by going on a 15-0 run and went into the final quarter knotted at 70-70. Part of their success was down to the way they pressured Orlando center Dwight Howard, who did not score a basket after the first quarter. "Every time he got it, our guys were very active," Saunders said. "Every time he put it on the floor, we tried to meet him a little earlier, not give him good post position." Howard was held to eight points on 3-for-12 shooting. Game plan Orlando coach Stan Van Gundy blamed himself for not countering the Pistons' game plan. "Losing the 15-point lead in the third quarter, that kind of stuff happens," Van Gundy said. "My frustration was that we couldn't get stops and rebounds and get out in transition. And I wasn't able to find us stuff to get shots in the half court. "My frustration is with myself," he added. "They turned it into a grind it out, body on body game." Van Gundy said poor defensive rebounding slowed the Magic running game and gave Detroit extra points. "The second-shot possessions killed us," he said. "They had 18 second-chance points." The Pistons can clinch the series with victory in Game Five in Detroit on Tuesday. "It's a bad loss, but it's not devastating," Van Gundy said. "We've got to get it done in Game Five. We've got to go up there with great energy and get it to be our kind of game."
