The Philippine National Police on Thursday launched an investigation against members of the Caloocan City Police Station for allegedly murdering three men.
The investigation was launched by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group after radio and TV news reports were aired about a certain Glen Salonga, who claimed he survived a salvaging of at least 10 Caloocan policemen.
Salonga, who has a gunshot injury in his left leg, said he and his three companions were on board a tricycle when armed men who identified themselves as Caloocan policemen accosted them around 1 a.m. in Barangay Camarin.
Salonga told the media that he and his companions were handcuffed and accused of robbing a Muslim resident of the city. He said they were brought to a dark area near the boundary of Bulacan province and Caloocan.
The victim said he was able to uncuff himself and escape. He said the policemen fired shots at him. He said he was fortunate that he only suffered a leg wound.
Salonga said while he was running away from the policemen, he heard seven gunshots. He said the policemen might have murdered his three friends.
While reports about Salongas fate were being aired over radio dzMM, three bodies were found in separate areas in Caloocan. Two were found in Barangay Camarin while another was discovered in Barangay Bagong Silangan.
Police investigators identified one of the slain men as Archer Abing, 23, a tricycle driver.
Probers believe that Abing was one of Salonga's companions.
Police were still identifying the two victims.
