Nikon Announces the D7000 DSLR -- a More Powerful DSLR

Post n°4 pubblicato il 19 Settembre 2010 da jbdcqplt

B&H Photo will be one of the first retailers to stock the new Nikon D7000 DSLR camera designed to meet the needs of ardent photographers who demand outstanding performance, reliability, and unparalleled levels of control and versatility in a compact form factor. Nikon is also introducing two ground-breaking lenses.

New York (Vocus) September 15, 2010 -- B&H Photo will be one of the first retailers to stock the newDigital SLR camera designed to meet the needs of ardent photographers who demand outstanding performance, reliability, and unparalleled levels of control and versatility in a compact form factor. Nikon is also introducing two ground-breaking lenses.

According to Nikon, the D7000 is engineered as an ideal balance of durability and functionality. It features a host of new enhancements and updated technologies, which results in spectacular photos and gorgeous full HD (1080p) movies. The D7000 contains a new 16.2 megapixel CMOS sensor with an unprecedented level of low-light ability in a DX-format (APS-C) camera. This is a camera that delivers superior image quality with low noise. The camera’s native ISO range of 100-6400 affords the versatility to photograph in challenging lighting conditions.

The new Expeed 2 image processing engine powers the enhanced performance of the D7000 along with a new 39-point autofocus (AF) system and pioneering 2,016 pixel RGB 3D Matrix Metering System to deliver amazing image quality in a variety of shooting conditions. The The Expeed 2 image processing system engine combined with a 14-bit Analog/Digital conversion brings a new level of even tonal gradations while managing color, contrast, exposure, and noise resulting in brilliant image quality. Expeed 2 also manages the D7000’s speedy 50-millisecond shutter response, lightning-fast AF speed, and rapid six frame-per-second burst speed for up to 100 images.

The 39-point AF System includes nine center cross-type sensors that operate with more than 60 Nikkor lenses. The points in the new Multi-cam 4800DX AF module work together to provide superior subject acquisition and fast tracking capabilities, enabling photographers to grab a baseball player stealing a base or a flock of geese suddenly taking flight. In addition the shooter can activate dynamic or single point AF, which is configurable in combinations of 9, 21, or 39 or a 21-point ring to match a variety of shooting styles and situations. Photographers can initiate 3D tracking, which continuously follows moving subjects within the 39 AF points, highlighting the activated AF point in the viewfinder.

Exploiting Nikon’s Scene Recognition System, the camera analyzes subject information from a database containing more than 30,000 images to optimize focus, exposure, and white balance. To assist in creating amazing imagery, the system reads data from a breakthrough 2,016-pixel 3D color Matrix Meter RGB sensor that examines the scene’s brightness and color data, then optimizes the camera’s performance prior to the actual exposure.

Building upon the popular , themovies with full-time autofocus and manual exposure control. Users can engage a variety of AF functions, including face priority, to track up to 35 human faces, subject-tracking, and normal or wide-area autofocus. You can adjust the exposure on the fly while recording. There are variable frame rates and resolutions, and you can record 1080p at 24 fps or a web-friendly 720p at 24 or 30 fps for up to 20 minutes per clip. You can edit and trim video clips in the camera. For professional audio, you can use a wireless or hot shoe mounted microphone, with sound recorded via the stereo microphone input.

Sony Refreshes Its E-Readers with Improved Touch Screen

Post n°3 pubblicato il 06 Settembre 2010 da jbdcqplt

At the mention of an "e-reader," most people thinkor , but if you just want the device, sans the deal with the content provider, Sony has a nice little trio of e-readers on offer, and they've all just been upgraded with several important improvements.

Sony's 5-inch Pocket Edition e-reader is now called PRS-350 and the 6-inch Touch Edition is called PRS-650; both are available now for $179.99 and $229.99 respectively. The 7-inch Daily Edition is now called PRS-950 and it will be available this fall for $299.99.

The smallest device in the bunch has 2GB of memory, a USB connection, and supports EPUB/ACS4, PDF, Microsoft Word, and other text file formats. Its 6-inch brother has similar specifications, with the addition of SD and Memory Stick Duo Expansion slots for adding additional memory, as well as a headphone jack and support for MP3 and AAC audio files.

Both, however, lack wireless; this is where the Daily Edition steps in, with 4GB of memory, wireless connectivity, and increased battery life (27 days with the wireless turned off, Sony claims).

What distinguishes Sony's e-readers from the competition is their E-Ink Pearl touch screen display. Previous models have also had touch screen capabilities, but the added touch sensitive layer over the e-ink screen added just a tad too much glare for our liking. Sony claims the new models are all significantly improved with this regard; additionally, the touch screen is now more responsive and page turns are much snappier.

Sony also said it will release a Reader Mobile Edition application for iPhone and Android-based smartphones later this year.

Gmail Glitch Plays Music Upon Sign-In for Some Chrome Users

Post n°2 pubblicato il 06 Settembre 2010 da jbdcqplt

Is there some old-timey music playing in the background when you log into Gmail on Chrome? A glitch with a YouTube video intended to notify users abouthas resulted in some unwanted Gmail background music.

The bug seems to only be affecting those running Chrome – though there was one report on the Google forums of its also affecting an Opera user – and those who have not yet activated Priority Inbox.

"Whenever I sign into my Gmail using Chrome, music automatically starts playing. This is a new issue. It's like old time dance music," according to the original complaint posted on . "Occasionally there will be a sound effect like a click, a bubble, cards shuffling, a dog growling. There is no music running on my computer. It only occurs in Google Chrome on one of my Gmail accounts, it does not occur in Firefox on anything."

The noises described are actually the soundtrack to a video (below) Google launched explaining its new Priority Inbox service. The feature will organize your Gmail inbox to display the most important messages atop the inbox. To activate, users must click the new Priority Inbox link on the top, right-hand corner of the inbox. Doing so produces a drop-down menu with more information about Priority Inbox – including the offending video – and the option to opt-in to the service.

A glitch in Chrome, however, now loads and starts playing the music to that video every time users sign into Gmail.

"We are working on fixing this," a Google employee named Michelle wrote in the forums on Tuesday. "Sorry for the inconvenience, and thanks for your understanding."

"This bug has been fixed for the majority of users, and should be resolved for everyone shortly," a Google spokeswoman said Wednesday afternoon.

Tech-Recipes postedof the problem.

Users were still reporting this issue earlier today. The problem can apparently be stopped by opting in to Priority Inbox – or by using Firefox or Internet Explorer.

"It was really freaking me out for a bit," another user wrote on the forums. "I kept thinking, 'This is seriously how horror movies start... soon a giant clown will pop out of my closet with an axe in hand and spray me with his fake boutonniere.'"

The user said the issue continued even after he/she clicked the Priority Inbox link and paused the video.
