All-Natural Chocolate Wafer Maker Moves Ahead With Mission to Reduce Carbon Footprint

Nyack, New York-based Q.bel Foods, LLC, makers of Q.bel™ all-natural chocolate candy wafer rolls and wafer bars, today announced that they are reducing the size of the display trays in their line of chocolate covered wafer rolls.The slight reduction in width, from 6½” to 6”, will have a significant positive impact on Q.bel’s customers and on the environment.

After the change, each case of Q.bel chocolate wafer rolls will use:     6% less paperboard (134.4 fewer square inches per master case)     6% less corrugated (58.5 fewer square inches per master case)     7% less cargo space (meaning 7% more can fit on a truckload, meaning 7% fewer road miles and 7% less fuel)     7.5% less shelf space     8% less shipping weight (even more fuel savings)

"The size of the package that shoppers actually buy isn’t changing at all,” said Bahram Shirazi, Founder and CEO of Q.bel. “It’s just that the tray that sits on a store shelf and holds the packages didn’t need to be quite as wide as it was originally made.Rather than live with excess packaging, we decided to reduce.It’s a win-win-win all around.”

The Q.bel product line was launched in January 2009, with an initial national rollout by Whole Foods Markets.Since that time, the product has been selected by many leading retailers in the health and natural foods industry.
