Pillole Cattoliche Tallone

 Le Pillole Cattoliche sono uno di quei farmaci che non ti aspetti, soprattutto da una piccola farmacia e soprattutto agli inizi del Novecento.La ricetta di questo rimedio è annoverata tra le preparazioni consigliate da Herman Boerhaave (1668 -1738), medico, chimico e botanico olandese considerato il fondatore dell’insegnamento clinico. A lui, infatti, si deve la dimostrazione della correlazione tra sintomi e lesioni.Il curioso nome del farmaco, a volte indicato su alcuni testi come “Pillole Universali”, deriva dal fatto che il prodotto aveva il potere di purgare tutti i “cristiani” (ossia tutte le persone), e da lì a "pillole cattoliche" il passo fu breve.La formula del XVII secolo conteneva aloe, agar, radice di elleboro nero, gialappa, scammonea e coloquintide. Ovviamente, come molti farmaci, potevano essere soggetti a variazioni sul tema a seconda del farmacista che li produceva, ma due elementi rimanevano sempre invariati, cioè aloe e scammonea.Nel caso della farmacia Tallone di Fossano, venivano aggiunte anche senna e gialappa, due piante, i cui estratti hanno spiccate proprietà lassative.La scatola sottolinea che le pillole erano prodotte secondo un metodo “speciale”, che le rendeva uniche, ma non vi sono ulteriori specifiche circa questo fantomatico metodo e le sue caratteristiche.Insomma, per purgarsi come Dio comanda, solo Pillole Cattoliche della Premiata Farmacia Tallone di Fossano!Ecco la foto della scatola: Misura 3,8 cm di diametro x 1,5 di altezza. E’ in cartone e risale agli anni Dieci del Novecento. La posologia raccomandava da 1 a 3 pillole al giorno secondo necessità.
