Siria, osservatori Onu se ne vanno, "Paese ha scelto guerra"

BEIRUT/ALEPPO (Reuters) - Il governo siriano e i ribelli hanno "scelto la via della guerra", ha ammesso oggi uno dei capi della forza di peacekeeping Onu mentre l'organismo internazionale termina la missione di monitoraggio a Damasco e le potenze internazionali continuano a essere in disaccordo su come porre fine al conflitto. Due settimane dopo le dimissioni dell'ex segretario generale Usa Kofi Annan da mediatore di pace per la Siria, è arrivato l'annuncio che gli ultimi osservatori militari saranno ritirati il 24 agosto. "E' chiaro che entrambe le parti hanno scelto la via della guerra, del conflitto aperto, e che lo spazio per il dialogo politico e la cessazione delle ostilit e la mediazione è molto, molto ridotto a questo punto", ha detto il vice capo della missione Onu Edmond Mulet. Mentre i combattimenti continuano attorno alla principale citt siriana, Aleppo, e si sono verificati rapimenti di rappresaglia tra sciiti e musulmani in Libano, le potenze occidentali e la Russia restano su posizioni opposte per quel che riguarda la sorte del presidente siriano Bashar al-Assad. Oggi, a New York, i diplomatici delle principali potenze si riuniranno alle Nazioni Unite con i rappresentanti della Turchia e dei più importanti stati arabi per discutere della situazione.
