EGYPT: Egypt: the repression against the Muslim Brotherhood turns into a bloodbath

24 France apologizes after broadcast images of the presidential palace of al-Ittihadia presenting them as those of al-Rabaa instead Adawiya.

The voltage does not seem ready to fall, Saturday, July 27 in Cairo after the announcement by the Egyptian Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim, the "imminent" spread of camps pro-Morsi in the Egyptian capital. These statements follow a bloodbath in the ranks of the Muslim Brotherhood, in the night from Saturday to Sunday in clashes with security forces near their camp in the north of Cairo.

The exact number of casualties was still not known Saturday night, the Brotherhood speaking 120 dead and over 4,500 injured, while the Ministry of Health reported 38 deaths. An official count as one of the few Western journalists present there at the time of the collision, the BBC reporter Quentin Sommerville, described as "surprising" considering what he had seen on instead. British journalist had posted earlier on his Twitter account pictures of protesters seriously injured and pools of blood, evoking scenes of "carnage" in the hos Hospital campaign pro-Morsi.

"Shoot to kill"

Independent journalists present there also confirmed that most of the victims were hit by bullets in the head and chest - a fact interpreted by leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood as a sign of the clear desire to "shoot to kill". The Brotherhood said that the killing is the direct result of the last speech of General Sissi, who had called on his supporters to protest on Friday to give the "mandate to end terrorism" .

While the Egyptian Interior Minister tried to blame the bloodshed on the Muslim Brotherhood - by stating inter alia that the police had "used the tear gas "- the first cracks began to appear among the supporters of the coup of July 3. Vice President Mohamed ElBaradei has "strongly condemned the use of excessive force and the dead" in a message on his Twitter account. Imam of Al-Azhar, the main authority in Sunni Islam, is also out of its reserve on Saturday to condemn the death of protesters and seek "urgent judicial inquiry."

Extreme polarization

These first dissenting voices appear in a highly polarized political environment in Egypt. The Reuters news agency reports as well as the two public television channels hardly mentioned the deadly violence on Saturday, while several state newspapers headlined the demonstrations in support of gen eral Sissi.

At the international level, London has explicitly condemned "the use of force against demonstrators" while Paris was content to call "all parties, including the army, to the utmost restraint" . The diplomatic representative of the European Union Catherine Ashton on she said "deeply deplore the loss of life" while stressing the need for a swift transition to civilian rule .
