Speaking at the Integrated Marketing Communication Conference, Maher said that mobile marketing strategies should aim to build ongoing brand loyalty and not just brand awareness.

Brett St Clair, Google AdMob South Africa country manager agrees with Maher on that point. Speaking at the AMASA Forum in Sandton, St Clair said that mobile marketing is all about brand-building, acquisition, growth and retention. He added that mobile brand building provides instant interaction with consumers, and assures consumer expectations, a permanent brand presence and commercial success.

Maher does not subscribe to the school of thought that believes marketing strategies need to be dumbed down for mobile users. Instead, Maher believes that because mobile phones don't allow users to multi-task (check their mail while surfing the net while trying to absorb marketing messages); they are able to devote greater attention to the message being delivered.
