Oggi la Bild, il tabloid tedesco pił venduto in Germania e nel mondo, festeggia i 60 anni dalla sua prima pubblicazione con un numero speciale dal titolo "Bild per tutti", con Paperino in versione strillone. Come l'editoriale del direttore della Bild, Kai Diekmann, per festeggiare l'evento sono state distribuite 41 milioni di copie gratuite, mentre sul sito del tabloid senza costi la versione online. In realt , il primo giorno effettivo di pubblicazione della Bild fu il 24 giugno del 1952, ma la Bild festeggia oggi perché domani non esce in edicola, rimpiazzata, come ogni settimana, dalla sua versione domenicale, chi si chiama Bild am Sonntag ("Sonntag" significa appunto domenica).
La Bild venne fondata nel 1952 dal giornalista Axel Springer, che voleva importare il modello dei tabloid britannici in Germania. Oggi la Bild č, a grandi linee, il corrispettivo del Sun in Regno Unito, anche se ha un formato pił grande e articoli pił brevi. In realt Springer si ispirņ per il suo nuovo giornale a un altro tabloid britannico, e cioč il Daily Mirror. Il primo numero della Bild aveva solo 4 pagine. Ma dopo neanche un anno, contava gi 500 mila lettori.
La Bild č famosa in patria e nel mondo principalmente per tre cose: i suoi titoli sensazionalistici, le sue prese di posizione spesso populiste e le foto di donne in topless, che, secondo il Guardian, solo in prima pagina sarebbero state circa 5 mila nel corso della sua storia. A questo proposito, lo scorso 9 marzo, in occasione della Festa della Donna, c'č stata una decisione storica da parte della Bild, quella di donne nude in prima pagina e di abbandonare quindi la tradizione della cosiddetta Seite-eins-Mädchen: la "ragazza della prima pagina", che riprende la "ragazza della terza pagina" dei tabloid britannici. "I tempi sono cambiati", ha fatto sapere nella circostanza la Bild, "ma rimarremo sexy".
I titoli della Bild hanno spesso creato molto scalpore, in Germania e all'estero, come quello Wir sind Papst ("Siamo tutti Papi") all'indomani dell'elezione del tedesco Joseph Ratzinger come nuovo pontefice o, ultimo e recentissimo, quello di ieri prima della partita dell'Europeo di calcio tra Germania e Grecia, che annunciava spavaldamente "Ciao ciao, greci, stavolta non possiamo salvarvi".
Per quanto riguarda la politica, invece, la Bild si č sempre definita unabhängig e überparteilich, ossia indipendente e imparziale, anche se, negli anni, č diventata sempre pił influente dal punto di vista politico, tanto che il portavoce dell'ex cancelliere tedesco Helmut Kohl (cristianodemocratico) una volta disse che tutti i giorni leggeva la Bild, perché:
i suoi titoli in prima pagina riflettono l'umore del paese.
Per esempio, nel caso di presunti favori a imprenditori e amici che ha recentemente coinvolto l'ex presidente tedesco Christian Wulff, la Bild č stata uno dei quotidiani che pił ha contribuito , soprattutto dopo la pubblicazione di una da parte di Wulff contro un'inchiesta del tabloid che sarebbe uscita nei giorni successivi.
Ma in passato, la Bild si era schierata apertamente e fin dal primo momento contro il muro di Berlino, contro l'inefficienza delle politiche occidentali contro l'Unione Sovietica o, ma in questo caso pił implicitamente, per i candidati alle elezioni generali (come per il socialdemocratico Gerhard Schröder nel 1998, nonostante l'orientamento decisamente conservatore del tabloid). Inoltre la Bild č stata molto criticata dal movimento studentesco degli anni Sessanta e Settanta, in quanto con i suoi articoli e titoli avrebbe contribuito a creare il clima d'odio contro il movimento che portņ al celebre caso del tentato omicidio dello studente tedesco Rudi Dutschke nel 1968.
Nonostante il grande successo della Bild (č il quotidiano pił venduto d'Europa, da qualche anno ha sede a Berlino dopo molti anni passati ad Amburgo) e il fatto che raggiunga generalmente ben 12 milioni di lettori in Germania, da un po' le sue vendite sono in sensibile e costante calo, in linea con l'andamento generale dei quotidiani cartacei in tutto il mondo. La tiratura media di oggi della Bild, infatti, č pari a circa 2,7 milioni di copie, contro i 3,18 del 2009 e i 3,46 del 2007 (nel 1998 vendeva addirittura 4,5 milioni di copie). Una nota sull'articolo e sul nome: Bild in tedesco vuol dire "immagine, figura" ed č neutro, ma in italiano č chiamato con il femminile - la Bild - perché il nome ufficiale del giornale, anche se usato raramente, č Bildzeitung (Zeitung significa "giornale") che in tedesco č femminile.
