How to UPGRADE your R4 3DS card

In order to make the R4 3DS compatible with the latest Nintendo upgrade you will need to "flash" the R4 3DS card. You will need to run the upgrade procedure using a console with a firmware version earlier than Ver.3.0.0-5E or any other DS console including the DSi can perform this upgrade.

It is recommended to format your micro SD card before commencing. Please use the SD formatting association formatter to do this as instructed in step 2 of the R4i 3DS Set-Up Guide

Please note - We advise you plug your console into the mains before starting this. Power failure or interruption during the upgrade will permanently damage the R4i 3DS card.

    * Please download the software from the link in your order history.
    * Unzip the file and transfer only this over to your micro SD card.
    * Place this micro SD card into your R4i 3DS card and into your non-updated console.
    * Turn your console on.
    * On the R4i 3DS home screen you will see three icons, please select the far right "Config" icon.
    * From the options available on the next screen, select "Upgrade"
    * This is the file that is required to upgrade your R4i 3DS card.
    * Please select the upgrade file and wait for it to be completed.

Once complete remove from this console and insert into your console with the latest software.

Your R4 3DS Card will now be compatible with the latest Nintendo firmware upgrade for the 3DS ver.3.0.0-5E!!

The Original R4 DS is basically a Slot-1 storage solution for homebrew programs on the Nintendo DS game console. You need not any other booting tool when running the R4 DS except for a Micro SD memory card. The previous generation of Slot-2 solutions utilized the GBA slot of the DS but at the same time required a booting tool such as a Flash Me in the Slot-1 to function.

The R4 cart size is identical to an original cartridge and the Micro SD card fits securely into the R4 with no parts sticking out. To add ROMs and homebrew to the R4, you only need to transfer over clean ROMs or homebrew to the Micro SD card. No patching is required, however you can trim ROMs with the tool provided by the R4 team if free space is an issue. The R4 OS is simple to use and is easily skinnable. The R4 automatically detects the ROMs save type so there is no need to constantly download an updated ROM list. If there is no save file associated with the ROM, the OS will automatically create a save file before booting into the ROM. R4 DS has very impressive results in the performance testing. Everything we've tried has worked perfectly, and with zero slowdowns. Something that is unmatched on the flash kit market. Even the infamous benchmark games like Castlevania DS and Rockman Exe 5 run at full speed, even on a fragmented card!
