« ART tour international A...il fango del Vulcano Solfatara »

solfatara

Post n°5 pubblicato il 14 Novembre 2014 da elckjaer

Every corner of Campania(Southern Italy) hides a treasure.
If you are in Naples, go to Pozzuoli, you will not regret!
Pozzuoli is, in fact, one of the main archaeological sites in the region, as well as the seat of the most important volcano of Campi Flegrei, the Solfatara (ticket: 7euros), which is about 2-3 km from the city center.
The volcano is easily accessible in several ways:
-by train: from Naples you have to take the metro towards 'Pozzuoli-Solfatara'.
The metro station is about 800 meters from the entrance of the Volcano.
-by car: you need to cross the Naples 'Tangenziale' until the exit 11 of Agnano, about 4 Km from Solfatara. At this point follow the signs to Pozzuoli and "Vulcano Solfatara."
-by bus: buses line 152 and the line Sepsa depart from Piazza Garibaldi, in the center of Naples, and reach the Solfatara.
Attention: public transport in Naples are not very reliable!
The Solfatara is a volcanic crater still active, but quiescent, that retains an activity of jets of boiling mud and fumaroles (that reach up to 160 degrees).
The area is very large: you'll cross a forest of oak trees and typical plants of the Vesuvian area before reaching the crater, with its dusty soil and the disgusting smell (due to sulfur), but very healthy. The Solfatara was, in fact, used since ancient times as a thermal complex, as its mud are an excellent cure for rheumatism.
In addition, the gases emitted (not really fragrant) seem to have aphrodisiac properties...
The main steps of the visit are: the Bocca Grande (the main fumarole), the Well of the mineral water, the old stoves (natural saunas) and Fangaia.
