On the last day of the Conference Greener Aviation: Clean Sky breakthroughs and worldwide status, Director General of DG Research and Innovation – Robert-Jan Smits, featured the Commission’s priorities for the sector within Horizon 2020. Despite the cut in the European budget, the investment in Research and Innovation has significant increased – from 50 to 80 billion Euro - which shows a strong believe in improvement of competitiveness and creation of future jobs by investments in R&I. The day left interesting round tables for Open Rotor and Turbofan, as well as the role of Alternative fuels and their possible implementation in the sector.The Conference closed with the Greener Aviation Award that went to ‘Airframe noise reduction technologies applied to high-lift devices of future Green Regional Aircraft’ paper, prepared by international team and presented by Ignazio Dimino, CIRA.
