In 1980, a geometrical structure of modern mathematics is, as it had overnight become a cult object for young people - named after the mathematician Benoît Mandelbrot Mandelbrot set. Its complex structure, with its enormous wealth of form and its idiosyncratic beauty have drawn under their spell even people who otherwise would rather make a big circle around the math.
