THE BREAKFAST ROOMS

The two breakfast rooms can each accommodate the guests from two rooms. They are bright, cosy, welcoming and furnished with skilfully restored antique furniture to make guests feel comfortable and at home.

GENERAL INFORMATION:

All rooms have central heating with independent thermostat, LCD TV and WiFi internet connection. All have a third bed if required and are provided with hairdryers and complimentary toiletries.

The “IL MASCHERONE” Bed & Breakfast takes its name from the marble gargoyle over the arch of the old entrance.

Skilful conservative restoration of an old “cassero” (a type of building typical of the Ferrara area), enabled the coffered ceilings and frescoes dating from the 15th and 16th centuries to be recovered.

The cassero is built mainly in the vertical and its width is determined by the length of the mature tree trunk used for the load-bearing beams which also originally supported the wooden floors.

The restoration created four spacious welcoming rooms with bathroom in place of the four flatlets present previously. Each room is personalised with similar but different colours and furniture.

The rooms are named after some of the contrade (districts) competing in the Ferrara Palio, held to be the oldest in the world:

the “Lince Bendata” (“Blindfolded Lynx”), the “Unicorno (“Unicorn”), the “Idra” (“Hydra”) and the “Aquila Sulla Ruota” (“Eagle on a Wheel”) rooms.

THE LINCE BENDATA ROOM

Spacious and sunny, the room has a small balcony over the internal courtyard.

It has an orange and yellow colour scheme and a large bathroom with spacious shower cubicle.

THE "UNICORNO" ROOM

This is the most important room on the piano nobile of the house. It is sunny, with an 18th century marble fireplace and two frescoes set into the wall, brought to light during the recent restoration work.

The first is from the 15th century with a religious subject and attributed to Beniamino Dolci's atelier.

The second fresco with a floral subject is from the 16th century and is similar to those restored in Bentivoglio Castle.

THE IDRA ROOM

Only half the wooden ceiling with original beams has survived, the other half has been lost over the years. The room does, however, have a number of characteristic niches and small windows from about the 15th century. It is characterised by a colour scheme of sage and light green both on the walls and in the bathroom.

It can accommodate families of up to five, or a group of five friends.

The atmosphere is welcoming with refined furniture, carefully chosen down to the last detail.

THE AQUILA SULLA RUOTA ROOM

This room is a suite on two levels. On the first there is a large loft bathroom with old exposed beams and a small window, connected by a flight of stairs to a room giving access to an exclusive terrace with a view across the roofs of the city centre.

The pitched roof has wooden beams and joists above a floor tiled with Ferrara cotto.

The walls are brick red and yellow ochre.
