In tennis tournaments, a singles player or doubles team is said to have achieved the Grand Slam if they succeed in winning all four of the following championship titles in the same year:

* Tennis Australian Open (Melbourne)

* Tennis French Open (Roland Garros)

* Tennis Wimbledon (Wimbledon)

* Tennis US Open Flushing Meadows

These tennis tournaments are therefore also known as the Grand Slam tournaments. They rank as the most important tennis tournaments of the year in the public mind, as well as in terms of world ranking points and prize-money awarded. The titles are known as Grand Slam titles.

Tennis US Open

The US Open grew from an exclusive entertainment event for high society to a $17 million prize money championship (about $1.4 million for each of the winners of the singles tennis tournaments) for over 600 male and female professional players.

The main court is located at the 24,000-seat Arthur Ashe Stadium, named after Arthur Ashe, the African American tennis player who won the inaugural men's final of the US Open in 1968. (The British tennis player Virginia Wade won the first woman's US Open final, five months after she turned professional.) Court Number 2 is Louis Armstrong Stadium, which stood as the main stadium until the completion of Ashe stadium. Court Number 3 is the Grandstand Stadium, which is attached to the Louis Armstrong Stadium. Sidecourts 4, 7 and 11 each have a seating capacity of well over 1,000.

Tennis Australian Open

Held in the middle of the Australian summer, the Australian Open is famous for its notoriously hot days. An extreme-heat policy is often put into play when temperatures (and humidity) reach dangerous levels.

Tennis French Open

It is a tennis event played on clay and held over two weeks between end of May and early June in Paris, France.

It is the second of the Grand Slam tennis tournaments on the annual tennis calendar and the premier clay court tennis tournament in the world. It is one of the most prestigious events in tennis. and it has the widest worldwide broadcasting and audience of all events in this sport.

Tennis Wimbledon

The Championships, Wimbledon, commonly referred to as Wimbledon, is the oldest major championship in tennis and is regarded by many to be the most prestigious tennis championship in the world. Held annually between late June and the beginning of July.
