2007 us open,The US Open 2008,Grand Slam Tennis

The 2007 us open

was held from 27 August to 9 September 2007, at USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center at Flushing Meadows, New York City.

Important Matches

* Rafael Nadal, seeded and ranked second, was tested by Alun Jones, who broke him in the first set before Nadal came back to break back and take the set 7-5. Jones, however, won the second set 6-3, and Nadal, more at ease, won the next two sets, finally advancing 7-5, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1

Donald Young won his first Grand Slam match against Chris Guccione in four sets

Fernando Verdasco rallied in coming from two sets down to defeat Paul-Henri Mathieu, the 22nd seed. Verdasco was ahead 5-1 in the third set and 5-3 in the final set. He won a dramatic game and thus match in the fifth set

# Daniela Hantuchovį lost 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 to Julia Vakulenko, becoming the first top ten seed to exit the tournament

Roger Federer went past Andy Roddick in the quarterfinals, in straight sets with the score 7-6, 7-6, 6-2 to set up a semi-final clash with Nikolay Davydenko.

Justine Henin defeated Venus Williams 7-6 (2), 6-4 to reach the final. This match marked the first time since 2001 (Martina Hingis; Australian Open) that someone had defeated both Williams sisters in the same tournament. Henin has yet to lose a set on her way to the final.

World number one Roger Federer won a fourth consecutive 2007 us open

title with a hard-fought 7-6 (7-4) 7-6 (7-2) 6-4 victory over Novak Djokovic. Federer successfully defended his title, becoming the first man in the open era to win four consecutive U.S. Open titles.

In truth, Federer was not having to do that much to stay in front and an increasingly tired looking Djokovic finally succumbed soon after.

And asked if he had been nervous, Federer said: "I can admit that. I've had an upset stomach the last few days. Nervous, shaking, cold hands before the match. I've had it all.

In 2008: The latest instalment in Roger Federer's perplexing 2008 came last Thursday when he was beaten 7-6(4), 4-6, 6-3 by Andy Roddick in the quarter-finals of the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami.

Justine Henin won her second U.S. Open title, this year without losing a set.Justine Henin won the seventh Grand Slam title of her career and second of the season with a 6-1, 6-3 defeat of Svetlana Kuznetsova to claim the 2007 us open

crown.

Justine Henin cruised to her second championship, crushing Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-1, 6-3 to win the title. Esther Vergeer once again won a doubles final, this time alongside Jiske Griffioen. Shingo Kunieda and Satoshi Saida won the Wheelchair Men's Doubles final over Robin Ammerlaan and Michael Jeremiasz. In juniors competition, Jonathan Eysseric and Jerome Inzerillo defeated Grigor Dimitrov and Vasek Pospisil to win the title, while Ksenia Milevskaya and Urszula Radwańska domiated their final against Oksana Kalashnikova and Ksenia Lykina.

Henin became the first woman to beat both Serena and Venus Williams in the same event on the way to a grand Slam title, after back-to-back wins over the American sisters in the quarters and semis.

April 1st 2008: Sad news as Justine lost her match today in the Sony Ericsson Open as she lost to Serena Williams 2-6, 0-6.

The US Open tennis tournament i   is held annually in August and September over a two-week period (the weeks before and after Labor Day weekend). The main tournament consists of five championships: men's and women's singles, men's and women's doubles, and mixed doubles, with additional tournaments for senior, junior, and wheelchair players. Since 1978, the tournament has been played on acrylic hard court at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in the Queens borough of New York City. The complex was renamed after King during the 2006 US Open. King is a pioneer in women's tennis and the founder of the Women's Tennis Association (WTA), the Women's Sports Foundation and World Team Tennis (WTT), which she founded with her former husband, Larry King.

The us open tennis originated from two separate tournaments: the men's tournament and the women's tournament. The event was first held in August 1881 and staged at the Newport Casino, Newport, Rhode Island (men's singles only). The championships were known as the U.S. National Singles Championship for men. Only clubs that were members of the United States National Lawn Tennis Association were permitted to enter. From 1884 until 1911 the tournament used a challenge system whereby the defending champion automatically qualified for the next year's final. The Newport Casino hosted the men's singles tournament until 1915 when it moved to the West Side Tennis Club at Forest Hills, New York. From 1921 until 1923 it was played at the Germantown Cricket Club in Philadelphia and returned to Forest Hills in 1924.

The us open tennis grew from an exclusive entertainment event for high society to a $17 million prize money championship (about $1.4 million for each of the winners of the singles tournaments) for over 600 male and female professional players.

The total prize money for the 2008 us open tennis is divided as follows:
