INTRODUCTION

The glorious history of Club de Regatas Vasco da Gama is overloading of real important facts. Our Club has written ones of the most beautiful pages of sport in Brazil. It became such a hard job having to choose among all the archives the facts that would represent the beginning of Vasco da Gama’s history. We finally picked, among so many important records, the acts performed by Dr. José Augusto Prestes, Vasco’s president in 1924, who didn’t permit that our Club surrender in expelling from the players’ list the poor and black athletes. We reproduced, in the following, the amazing letter from our president, a document with the characteristics of pioneers, independency and above all, the social justice, which represents CR Vasco da Gama.

The resolution presented today by the papers, taken yesterday in meeting with the highest level from the association which your excellency is the President put the CR Vasco da Gama in a situation of inferiority, that absolutely cannot be justified not even by the situation of our soccer field, neither by the simplicity of our headquarters, neither by the financial condition of a great number of our partners.
The privileges conceded to the 5 clubs founded of the AMEA and the form of why will be given the right of discussion and vote, after done the advanced classification, forces us to expose our request against those already mentioned resolutions. Talking about the condition of expelling 12 (twelve) of our players from our teams, it was voted as majority from the Director boarding of CR Vasco da Gama, the right of denying this request, by not being conformed with the process of “why the investigation was allowed on the social position of our dealers”, investigations taken to a court where had no representation neither defense. We’re right that your excellency will be the first one to understand that it would be a real dishonest position from us, to sacrifice the desire to engage the AMEA association, some that fought for the conquer of not only one but some victories of the Soccer championship of the city of Rio de Janeiro in 1923. These 12 young players, almost all of them are native brazilian, in the begging of their careers, the public act that will injure those will never be performed with the concernment of those who rule the house which embraced them, neither under the shield, that they with so many gallantries, super floated with glories.
In these terms with our apologize, communicate your excellency that we give up to be a part of AMEA. Willing your Excellency to accept the arguments in consideration and esteem of who is owns the honors of subscribe itself.
