Drawbacks
Double-click in the Aliased Names column on each item in turn to edit them. In each case, after typing your preferred alias, click on OK to return to the Output Channel Alias/Mapping

This option needs to be turned on (ticked) if you wish to use REAPER for recording.
Reaper was ultimately not the choice for me as it did not integrate with my with some of my important plugins properly (UAD-1 and VST Waves plugs). In many respects , plugs are just as important to me as the DAW itself and that is the ONLY reason I moved on. I am not a MIDI guy but apparently there still needs to be some work done as far as it’s MIDI capabilities are concerned.
Since the software joined our selection of software and apps in 2012, it has achieved 19,943 downloads, and last week it had 22 downloads.

I remember having problems with Slate plugs .. soon as I got rid of them everything was fine again.
If there are other reasons to go with Reaper, then that is great.

I sympathise with your situation , i really do. As you know all DAW’s have their share of issues but for me reaper on osx has been a non starter despite much effort. Also, one wrong setting in reapers multitude of options in preferences and it can cripple the system.
