BuroLandschap Architects Build Floating Bike-Pedestrian Bridge in Belgium

The unique feature of the structure is that it adapts to fluctuating water levels thanks to suspended modular elements. The bridge is located on the border of the municipalities of Dilsen-Stokkem and Maasmechelen. It connects the two banks of a pond formed as a result of mining operations in the last century.

Although mining operations have long ceased in the region, the local relief landscape is reminiscent of it, and in recent years has attracted many tourists – pedestrians and cyclists. The architects from the local studio BuroLandschap aimed to harmoniously integrate the 400-meter pontoon bridge into the existing natural landscape. The gently twisting structure is inspired equally by organic forms and the Fibonacci sequence. According to the team’s idea, the curved structure naturally slows down the pace of users, encouraging them to stop and enjoy the picturesque view.

Tiffany & Co. boutique in Stuttgart adorns façade with ceramic ‘diamonds’

In a recent collaboration with Tiffany & Co., MVRDV designed the brand’s boutique in Stuttgart. The project once again demonstrated the team’s commitment to innovative use of materials, as well as their desire to interpret the company’s rich historical heritage in unconventional architecture.

post_12287

The studio worked on the renovated façade together with Dutch ceramic manufacturer Koninklijke Tichelaar. As a result, this material was used to create hand-blown “diamonds” with an iridescent finish. More than 2,820 decorative elements are attached to the glass display case of the store using special steel fixtures. The architects aimed to create the effect that the ceramic pieces, placed both inside and outside the space, are literally floating in the air. Each element was made using slip casting and glazed in one of nine shades, from the iconic Tiffany blue to pure white.
