The atmospheres of the song theater of “IO, GIORGIO GABER” (I, GIORGIO GABER) will relive on Saturday 24 September 2022 at the Kunst Grenzen Gallery – Frontier Art!
Giorgio Gaber or Mister G was among the first interpreters of Italian Rock and Roll, author and theatrical actor, he chose as the subject to tell those minor suburban heroes who entered his best-known songs, to the point that the critic Enzo Golino baptized him “the ‘Adorno del Giambellino’, a brand to which Gaber himself made the verse on more than one occasion, defining himself as an ‘ignorant philosopher’.
The show “IO, GIORGIO GABER” (I, GIORGIO GABER) is curated by the well-known Trentino actor ALFONSO MASI with the musical accompaniment of Patrick Coser (guitar and voice), Luciano Maino (accordion) and Michele Tovazzi on double bass.
Alfonso Masi began his career as a teacher in 1976 and continued until 2005, simultaneously holding courses in theatrical animation, didactics of poetry and storytelling, and in 2001 “The newspaper at school” for the newspaper Alto Adige.
“I recite author’s poems […] and it dates back to the late 1950s when I was 16. I was given a 45 rpm record in which Arnoldo Foà recited the Lament for the death of Ignazio. I was struck by Foà’s interpretation and at the first opportunity I wanted to try my hand at school in the recitation of a poem.
When the literature teacher called me to the desk to show that she had learned the time of Barga by heart, with a grave voice I began to chant In my corner where I do not hear / if not the rumble of wheat remains ….
I could not even finish four lines that the teacher abruptly threw me away shouting that this was not the way to present Pascoli’s verses.
I did not lose heart and my verse recitals continued outside the classrooms presenting books by poets and then returning to school with some recitals aimed at pupils, almost an itinerary of discovery of poetry divided into four stages:
1. The little man of nursery rhymes for first and second grade students.
2. Poesiapoesia, adventure in the world of poetry for third, fourth and fifth grade students.
3. Nursery rhymes nursery rhymes, discovering Gianni Rodari, poet for children.
4. What is poetry ?, a journey to discover poetry for middle school students.
[…]Over the years recitals aimed at elementary and middle school pupils have been gradually added to recitals regarding Italian and foreign poets, aimed at high school students or an adult audience. This is how the recitals dedicated to Ungaretti, Montale, Pavese were born, also made with the collaboration of some friends who recite with me or musicians who accompany the performance with appropriate music. The recitals on Rafael Alberti, on Prévert and the one on Lorca were also born in which I was finally able to realize my dream of acting A la cinco de la tarde with the support of a guitar, a singer and an actress. Instead, two poets, Orazio and Leopardi, were presented as an interview, therefore with alternating questions and answers, the latter always drawn from their works. The interview was also used for Dante and his trip to Hell; in this case I added two very tasty interviews, presented to Rai Tv in the 1970s, to Francesca da Rimini and Beatrice. “

In 2017 “Alfonso Masi reads: Nerooro (by A. Marangoni)” at the MART Library and staged “Donne mie” for the artistic event Artists with a special statute, a show resumed in 2022 for Club di Trento C.A.R.F. on the occasion of Inner Wheel Day; of 2018 is “The Man of Sorrows: the Passion of Christ” at the Vigilianum, and for the artist Gentile Polo “Alfonso Masi interprets: An uphill road” published by Aletti Editore first at Castel Pietra in Calliano and at Palazzo Thun in Trento then, while in 2019 he interprets poems taken from “Il corpo folle” by Annachiara Marangoni.
Of the current year are “In the moonlight” in collaboration with the Department of Cultural Promotion of the Municipality of Pergine, “THE GOD MONEY – Journey into money in the Greek, Latin, Christian and medieval world” for the Antonio Rosmini Cultural Association of Trento, while on Saturday 24 September the actor from Trentino will stage “IO, GIORGIO GABER” at the Kunst Grenzen gallery in Rovere ‘della Luna for the final evening of the event “Donation Virginia Milici and exhibition of artist’s books”.
“What I intend to do instead is […] to spread the love of poetry, that poem which, according to Donatella Bisutti, saves life and puts us in contact not with books or sheets of paper, but brings us closer to man with his feelings, his problems and his aspirations. ”
