The Studio d’Arte Gentile Polo was pleased to be among the warm audience that hailed the sold-out show for the theatrical performance “Frida Kahlo, the Pain for the Art” by the well-known local actor Vito Basiliana held on Saturday 10 March, at 8.30 pm, at the “Gigi Cona” theater in Gardolo.
The show, representing the life of a female icon as well as artistic strong and popular, wants to be a tribute to women and comes to completion of the celebrations for 8 March.
Accompanied by Tiziano Rossato’s guitars and Franco Giuliani’s mandolin, the actors Vito Basiliana (representing the male characters of Frida Kahlo’s life), Alessandra Cervone, Cristina Franzoi and Beatrice Ricci (in female roles) have given life to the tormented life of the Mexican painter, from the first love and physical torments, to the incident that drove her to paint, to the overwhelming love – hate for Rivera and life, which deprived her of motherhood and physical health.
On an apparently static setting, the original photos are taken which portray the most significant moments of the artist’s life, while the actors give life to pieces of his diary and the letters, the most significant paintings, dances in Mexican costumes and poetry d ‘love notoriously attributed to Frida Kahlo “You deserve a love”:
“You deserve a love that you want disheveled, with everything and the reasons that make you get up quickly, with everything and the demons that do not you they let you sleep. You deserve a love that makes you feel secure, able to eat the world when he walks next to you, he feels your hugs are perfect for her skin. You deserve a love that wants to dance with you, that you find heaven every time look in your eyes, that you never get bored of reading them your expressions. You deserve a love that you listen to when you sing, you support yourself when you’re ridiculous, that respects your being free, that accompanies you in your flight, that he is not afraid of falling. With an expert and passionate acting, the actor and director Vito Basiliana manages to lead the students in the tormented life of Frida Kahlo, until the sudden death due to the pulmonary embolism of the Mexican painter.
The enthusiastic public has acclaimed all the protagonists of the show that have granted a double exit to the limelight. Among the acclaiming public, the commissioner Andrea Robol, the well-known “civil actor” Alfonso Masi of the Academy of the Muses with his wife Augusta, the painter Renata di Palma and the Studio d’Arte Gentile Polo (Roverè della Luna).
Besides the success of the show, it is nice to point out the consolidation of the relationships between the artists, in particular with the actors Alfonso Masi and Vito Basiliana. The same Basiliana has indeed accepted to interpret some of the most representative poems of the last book “Pensieri … an uphill road” by the gentleman Rotaliano Gentile Polo, published by the Aletti publishing house and already distributed in online stores (Aletti Publisher, Amazon, IBS.it, Libreriauniversitaria.it, UNILIBRO.it and Feltrinelli).

The poetic performance will be held in June at the Castle of Drena, during the pictorial exhibition of the famous Sardinian artist and friend Antonello Serra. After the performance and during the presentation of the book “Thoughts … an uphill road” by the author, it will be possible to purchase an autographed and personalized copy of the work by the same Polo Gentile, available to the public.
