What is flexible welding rope/wire?

Cast tungsten carbide flexible welding wire is a kind of soft welding wire, which uses cast tungsten carbide powder, spherical cast tungsten carbide powder or a mixture of the two as the hard phase, and uses nickel-based alloy powder as the bonding phase, which is mixed and bonded in a certain proportion. It’s extruded, dried and manufactured soft welding wire with a hard metal core in the center, which is suitable for oxyacetylene welding, with excellent flow and form control at low deposition temperatures around 1050°C. The nickel-based alloy in the product gives the cladding layer excellent corrosion resistance. They are excellent flow and wetting properties.

Flexible welding ropes normally refer to Cast Tungsten Carbide Welding Rope and SCTC Welding Rope (Spherical Tungsten Carbide Welding Rope). The cast tungsten carbide is with good wear resistance. The performance of this kind of welding rope possesses makes it suitable for welding on petroleum drilling tools, concrete mixing blade, mud pump, coal sluice, coal drill pipe, tunnel drilling machinery to stand severe working environment or conditions and extend service life accordingly. Recommended application method is Oxy-Acetylene Welding with weak carburizing flame.

 What are the applications?

Flexible welding rods have excellent fluidity and molding control at low deposition temperature of 1050℃ so that they are suitable for oxyacetylene welding process.

Containing cast tungsten carbide, the welding layer of flexible welding rods has an extremely effective protection against erosive and abrasive attack, so flexible welding rods are highly recommended using in mining, drilling, and agricultural equipment as well as chemical and food processing industries.

It is suitable for oxyacetylene welding process and has excellent fluidity and forming control at a lower deposition temperature of about 1050°C.

Tungsten carbide flexible welding rods can be used for overlay welding on all steel substrates except manganese steel, and they are not recommended to use on cast iron. These welding products perform well in severe working conditions, increase the wear resistance, impact resistance, and corrosion resistance of the corresponding work-pieces, and prolong the service life. They can be used for diamond steel body drill bits, centralizers and other oilfield equipment work-pieces Surface welding can also be used for surface welding of mining tools and building materials machinery.

Welding Process

Oxyacetylene process

Use a neutral flame to preheat the entire work-piece at 200-350°C (according to the size of the work-piece and the type of base material), and then preheat the part at 500-550°C. The electrode and the work-piece should always be in contact to ensure that the alloy melts on the surface of the work-piece, and the flame should continuously swing forward. The end of the electrode should lift as the weld bead forms.

TIG welding process

A TIG welding process is similar to the commonly used cladding process. The distance between the end of the electrode and the work-piece is always kept at 5mm, and a small current is used for welding.
