Marta Matteiko 25, 198cm, the tallest foreign player in the women’s professional volleyball team, expressed his desire to play in the V League.
Matteiko, a Polish national, received the most attention on the first day of the 2024 Korea Volleyball Federation KOVO women’s tryout at NAS Sports Complex in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates. Right-handed Apojit Spiker Matteiko is the tallest player to participate in the tryout.
“Blocking is my strength. I have experienced a lot of attacking fast balls from potential,” Matteiko said, appealing to his strengths. “I’m in great physical condition. I’m happy to be in the tryout.”
In the first warm-up match on the day, Matteiko did not stand out in terms of skill or power, but hit a spike that saved the RBI. The serve was not strong, but it was accurate. He recorded two serve aces in the first set practice match. Above all, he was definitely good at creating effective blocking.

Matteiko never joined the Polish national team under coach Stefano Lavarini, but she has participated in international competitions as a youth team. In the 2021-2022 season, she gained experience in overseas leagues in France RC Cannes for the first time. Since then, she has played in Belgium and Spain.
It is her first time to compete in Asia. “The agent made a proposal. I’ve never participated in a tryout before, but I’m learning new things and enjoying them,” Matteiko said with a smile.
V-League is already well known among foreign players. Matteiko said, “I heard from my teammates who participated in the tryout last year that they had good experiences. They are well-organized and well-run, and fiercely competitive. I was advised that playing in the Korean league would be worthwhile.”
Berenica Tomsia, a native of Heungkuk Life Insurance, also told her about the V-League. “I don’t know much about Korea, but I hope there will be a chance to experience Korean food and culture,” Matteiko said.
Matteiko was active in Polish, French, Belgian and Spanish leagues. “I learned how to adapt as the culture is different from that of Poland. France was the most difficult but I learned many things not only in volleyball but also in life,” Matteiko said. “In Spain, I had to focus more on defense than in Poland.
