NUKI SMART LOCK 2.0: HOW TO GET YOUR DOORS SMART

The Nuki Smart Lock turns ordinary locks and doors into smart objects. For this purpose, a kind of electric drive is installed for the key, which then opens or closes the door on command, for example on a smartphone command. Version 2.0 of the Nuk Smart Lock has now been released.

The Nuki Smart Lock is now available in version 2.0 with important improvements like Bluetooth 5, Apple HomeKit or ZigBee support. Also Amazon Alexa and Google Home can be used with it. Thanks to the integration in Apple HomeKit, Nuki can now also be controlled via Siri, managed via the Apple Home App and easily integrated into an existing system.

The new Nuki also includes a door sensor that detects whether the door is open or closed and warns if the user wants to lock the door when it is open. In addition, the Smart Lock 2.0 has a revised key adapter so that the electronic door lock can also be used with standard knob cylinders. Because Bluetooth 5 is supported, the radio range and connection quality are also improved, the manufacturer promises. The smart door lock is now also compatible with the “ZigBee” smart home standard.

The new version of the Smart Lock has been available online in the Nuki Shop since November 2018 and costs 230 euros. According to the manufacturer, a retrofittable door opener for the intercom system will be available in the first half of 2019.

If you own the first generation of the smart door lock, you can exchange the old version for the new one. In addition there is 100 euro discount.

In a press release published today, there was a nice update for smart door locks from Amazon. With the new Alexa feature “Unlock”, Smart Home door locks compatible with the native Smart Home App (without actively naming the skill) can now also be unlocked via voice or app. Customers activate the settings of their door lock in the Alexa App. If the “Unlock-by-voice” function is selected, customers open their lock using a voice command; if “Unlock-by-app” is selected, this is done via the app. The mandatory four-digit voice code is created in the Alexa App beforehand.

After three unsuccessful attempts, the language variant is blocked for security reasons. Before using it again, the customer must reactivate the feature in the app and enter a different language code. To unlock the door, customers simply use the voice command “Alexa, unlock the door”.
