PLOT ANNABELLE 3:
Annabelle 3, the film directed by Gary Dauberman, is the third installment in the “Annabelle” horror series, featuring the infamous possessed doll of the “The Conjuring” universe.
Determined to prevent Annabelle from continuing to sow chaos, the demonologists Ed (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine Warren (Vera Farmiga) bring the possessed doll into the artifact room locked to their home, putting it “safe” behind consecrated glass and obtaining the holy blessing of a priest. But a ruthless night of horror awaits them, when Annabelle awakens the evil spirits in the room, ready to set eyes on a new target: Judy (Mckenna Grace), the ten-year-old Warren daughter, and her friends.
OVERVIEW ON ANNABELLE 3:
In the Museum of the Occult of Ed and Lorraine Warren, at their home in Monroe, Connecticut, there is really, enclosed in a case, a doll named Annabelle, although the facts told in the three spin-offs of the series The Conjuring are invented. And there is also another difference from reality: the original is not in fact a disturbing porcelain doll but of a classic Raggedy Ann from the piece, with hair made of red woolen threads, a triangular nose and the typical apron, born from a series of children’s books. The Warren’s daughter, Judy, warned by her parents never to enter the room where for years they collected the cursed objects we see in the film, revealed in an interview made on the occasion of the third Annabelle, that the doll gives her the chills and he can’t even look at it today. To what the Warren declared in their Ghost Hunters and which was also written in The Demonologist, the doll was received as a gift in 1968 by a girl who was studying as a nurse. Following some disturbing accidents and bizarre findings of the doll, as if she moved or moved from one place to another, the girl, her roommate and her boyfriend went to a medium who told them that she was possessed by the spirit of a little girl, Annabelle. Following this the doll was brought by the Warren who closed it in their museum, after having defined it as a victim of demonic possession. The third episode of the saga is directed by Gary Dauberman, who makes his directorial debut with the film after being screenwriter of IT and IT Chapter Two, of all the films of Annabelle and the TV series Swamp Thing. This time it was director and producer James Wan who helped him in the script.
To interpret Judy Warren at ten (at the time of the story the real one would have already had 25) is the little Mckenna Grace, now thirteen, who started working in the entertainment world at the age of 6. In the cinema she has often played the young version of the protagonists: it was the little Tonya Harding in Tonya and the teenager Carol Danvers in Captain Marvel. She is not even a horror newcomer, who apparently also likes very much as a spectator: at the cinema she appeared in Amityville: Awakening and on television in The Vampire Diaries, Sabrina’s terrifying adventures and – above all – she played the acclaimed Hill House series. We also saw her in Mom’s Friends and, in 2019, in Designated Survivors.
Next to her in Annabelle 3 is Madison Iseman, whom we recently saw in Jumanji – Welcome to the jungle and in Little Chills 3.
CRITICISM OF ANNABELLE 3:
Much appreciated in America, the third installment of the lucky spin-off of The Conjuring encloses inside the Warren house, with few external incursions, its three protagonists (four with the famous doll) and confirms the good packaging of the two previous films and also the intrinsic limits of the series. Directed with some uncertainty by the neo-regist Gary Dauberman, who wrote all three films, Annabelle 3 does not lack enjoyable moments and cinephile touches, and uses jump scares more sparingly than usual, focusing more on tension. A perfect date movie for teenagers, well played by little Mackenna Grace and her colleagues, where good ultimately triumphs. Until the next episode. (Daniela Catelli – Comingsoon.it)
